Clear Bra Film

So... I drove about 60miles today and got a really small chip on my Cobra bumper. It's barely noticeable... but it made me cry

So, I was looking at these "Clear Bra" products. It seems like a good idea, but I am worried about the long term effect on the paint. I don't want to spend money on this, and have the adhesive on the Film bond itself to my paint and cause issues a year or so from now when I decide to replace/remove it.

Has anyone had any experiance(sp) with this stuff? I am gonna call a shop tomorrow for a quote on doing just the bumper. I found a pre cut kit for $125 with a install kit... I am just worried about installing that large of a film kit myself and messing up.

So.. any input on these things would be greatly appreciated and receive +repzz

Ya... I got this Cobra bumper because mine was beat to hell and back. Therefore when I saw that chip today I was like OOOOk thats a sign.

Hopefully its not to much to get one installed... I just dont trust myself with a film piece that big.

we use clearshield at my work, ive been there for almost two years and have been doing it since i got there and have never had a problem with it. Just think of it as thick clear vinyl, theres no problem taking it off if for some reason you choose to, and if kept clean you cant even really notice it

Clearshield paint protection film protects the paint finish of vehicles.

If you don't mind me asking, how much does your shop normally charge for an install of just the bumper?

Would you say me and a friend could install it ourselves? I have installed vinyl before, so I know the process of applying it... just don't want to mess it up.

Ill have to check the price tommorow for you.

If you can do vinyl really good, you should be able to do it but i cant gauruntee it. It is fairly forgiving though, alot more than applying vinyl. Although it is a little different than vinyl, its thicker, stretches ALOT more, and you have to be pretty anal when squeeging the water out, because there is no layer of protection over it, you are squeeging right ontop of the cleardshield.

I would appreciate it. I am going to contact a shop tomorrow and see what they charge as well. I found a kit for $125, so I guessing kit plus install is gonna be somewhere around $200.

Hmmm, I kinda want to do this myself but at the same time I don't want to spend that kind of money and then fuck it up... I guess it depends on the price of that shop.

now with something like this, its not always the best idea to go with the cheapest, because they are not all alike. I have tried brands other than clearshield and i didnot like them at all. Either they were to thin or they just didnt apply as easily as the clearshield.

I will ask them about the brand they use. I got the number from this site (Mississippi's Best Clear Bra Resource! Find a clear bra installer and protect your paint today! The Pass Christian one, last listing).

The $125 one could be 3M ScotchGuard brand for $10 more.
