I would add that you should sand until ALL the clear coat is hazy. If you use rattle can clear, it won't lay super smooth. As you start to sand you'll notice that most of it will be hazy but there will still be some low spots that the sand paper hasn't hit. Sand until the paper is able to hit EVERYTHING. You can stop early and buff but you'll get some orange peel.

The more you sand between coats, the less you'll have to sand in the end.

I'm sanding, then buffing but it looks hazy still. Not at all reflective, but the surface is smooth. What should I do now?

I have 1000 grit wet/dry, rubbing compound, polishing compound, and scratch and swirl removal.

Did you put clearcoat over the VHT? If not, I recommend you add a couple coats. Also, start w/ 1000 and wetsand. Then move to 1500 and 2000. Follow that with buffing and it should be shiney.

thanks went with your advice and got a very nice Chameleon effect going on.

Looks completely blacked out in the shade, and smoked in direct sunlight.

Also if you're a car length away looks completely blacked out. Wish I had a different style taillight tho that did the project justice.

AggieStang, those look fantastic! Good write up you did as well. I've been wanting to do to this, but I don't know if I can get that stuff shipped APO to Germany. Plus German laws I have to be concerned with. Over all awesome job!

damn good job. I'm glad this thread got bumped. I saw pictures of people who used vht and it COMPLETELY turned me off from it. I was going to just drop my lights off at a paint shop and have them sprayed. The pictures i've seen looked so cheap and lousy. I knew you had to sand and buff but I assumed everyone else knew and that's just how it came out. But damn, i'm glad I saw this. good work.

I love how you can make Nite Shades shiny or leave it "flat" looking. I think shiny looks really good on black stangs, stangs with gloss blackout panel, or stangs with no blackout panel. I did my blackout panel in satin black to I left the tail lights looking flat as well (I didn't do them very dark either).
