VHT Shiny?!

I redid my tail lights a couple months ago and I thought I would post some pics. What a huge difference wetsanding and buffing made. I did buff and sand the first time but really hit it good after I put the extra coat on this time. The first 2 are the old and the last are the new.

Good job. Properly applied NiteShade will look awesome. Unfortunately, most people don't know how to do it right.

I think they should list additional instructions on the can for people who have no clue becuase there is a lot more you have to do.

I need to wetsand mine down, re-clear, and buff. They are reflective but not enough.

That's what I did. I wetsanded, put another dark coat on, put a couple clearcoats on then wetsanded and buffed everything out.

What grits did you use? What did you use to buff them?

1500 and 1000 grit. Just go until the clear coat gets hazy and smooth. As for the buffing many people use the meguiars 3 step package with the cutting compound, polish and wax, but I used mother's mag wheel polish and then scratchX then wax because that's what I had lying around.

I still need to do this to mine. Last time I went to do it it was way to humid to spray clear. Good thing I tested my old light first because it came out white.

So it went something like this?
  1. Sand with 1000
  2. Sand with 1500
  3. Re-clear
  4. Sand again
  5. Re-Clear
  6. Sand again
  7. re-clear
  8. Buff

Do I have it right?

Yes, that is right except you need to add clear at the beginning and wax at the end. It would be better to sand with the two different grits but you don't have to, I didn't. The sanding between coats isn't nearly as important as the final sanding and buff. That's where the shine finally shows up. Let me know if you have any more questions. I've tried hand buffing and doing it with an orbital buffer and I got much better results by hand.
