How do i get rid of small scatches on my car safely?

Well, I just got my car a couple months back and it had a few scratches on it that look like a tree or something brushed on it a bit. They are very light and when you touch it you can't feel it...so it isn't deep. It is very noticeable though.

How do you think I can get get of them....I would rather not spend a lot of money for such a small thing.

that looks like it might work but I don't trust it completely.

get some of the meguires scratch x & use that... then wax your whole car using their cleaner, glaze & wax... if you got the cash i would get a small buffer as well... it will make the waxing process quicker & it will most likely get those scratches out... if they dont come out after that, take it to a body shop & see what they can do.. they will probably just sand the scratches & then buff em out.

Sounds like it just scratched the clear coat. I have a black car that had scratches and swirl marks when I got it. I used black colored wax to get mine out. The wax fills the holes and once you go over it a few times with the buffer it will not be noticeable. The more times you wax and buff your car the less noticeable it beomes until it completely fades out. Really any wax will work if you buff your car often enough.

3000 Grit Polish

I have used a liquid 3000 grit polish on clear coats and clear plastic. I actually use it on my watch crystal. It is very gentle and takes a few applications to work on deeper scratches. It doesn't cut the finish and really works great. I got mine from Steego. You'll only find something that fine at an autobody supply. Good luck.

It doesn't have to be, but I think it helps. You can probably get it at your local pep boys or whatever store you have near you. This is what it looks like.

If you can find it in a paste instead of a liquid that may work even better. Doesn't have to be this brand. There are other color waxes out there.

You may also want to seriously look into this stuff. I'm ordering it for spring and I've heard nothing but good things about it. I heard it is what Chip Foose's team uses on thier show cars, but I don't know if it is true,

So i used the meguires scratch x a few times after i washed my car...it seemed to slowly start making the scratches less noticable after every application.

Like I said any wax will work. It just build your clear coat back up. The colored wax just fills in the scratches with a similar color, but you should go back to using clear wax after a cfew coats of the color wax. A low speed buffer makes it look even better IMHO.

Does the scratch go though the paint? When you look at the scratch can you see the color below the paint color?

If you can see the primed surface below the paint there are two things you can do. One is take it to a shop and let them do it. Second is go to your local autoparts store and get touch up paint. Get the one that comes in the small container that is shaped like it has a pen top on it. You can trace the scratch and it fills it in. I had to use it when some ass decided to run a knife down the side of my car for no reason. Let it dry at least 24 hours then wax it and buff it. The more you wax it and buff it the more it blends with the rest of the pain.

The white lines sound like pressure marks. I don't know how to get rid of them. I have them on my door like someone leaned something really heavy against the car. Maybe someone else will know, but I think the pressure marks have to be removed professionally because they occur under the clear coat.

first off i wanted to thank you for you help neckbonekat

also i do have touch up paint that i got from the dealership when i got the car but its like a nail polish bottle almost. it is in a bottle and you twist off the top, then there is a stem and a nailpolish like tip. you know what i mean? this is also my first car and iam quite young and ignorant when it comes to cars, so the best bet might be for me to take it to a professional. i will still post pics on monday so that hopefully you can help me make a more precise decision. although im not exactly sure what a pro would do but if they repaint that section or something and blend it would it bubble in a few years?

I know what you are talking, about and if you have a really steady hand you can use that stuff. It's harder to stay in the crack with those little bristles. Maybe it is best to take it to a pro. If they are any good the paint should never bubble. They would probably sand down that area, reprep it for paint and repaint that area with a paint blended to match the area.

here is a rule of thumb i use. If i can feel the scratches with my fingernail. then waxing isnt gonna fix it.
That will require a high speed buffer ( some call it a "wheel") and some cutting compound. but PROFESSIONALS ONLY. you will burn your paint if you have never done this before.
Local PROS here will .....Wheel, Polish, and Wax a car for around $100. its an allday job. but worth it.

so i just want to make sure i understand what you are saying. well first off i can feel the scratches. so if i take it to a shop and get them to "wheel", polish and wax it, you think that would solve the problem?
