Hood arrived...

and I am PISSED beyond compreshion.... look at these pics:

The thing has chips all fucking over it to the fiberglass. That last pic is acually MISSING part of the hood and you can see the metal frame....

I called the guy and of course he says he knows nothing about it and it must of been UPS' doing. He said he did not buy insurance, dumbass... gonna take it to a body shop and see if they can repair it tomorrow and what the cost is. Depending on the cost I will either just repair it or file a claim and send it back.

If UPS will not fix it, and it cost to much to repair or can't be repaired, then I will request a refund. I don't care if it was not that guy's fault... its his stupid mistake for not getting insurance or lieing out his ass...

JEEZ im pissed.... took me 2 1/2 weeks to get this hood here and now I have this crap to deal with...

dam dude sorry to hear that. I know that the hood has to fall like 3 - 6 feet once it hits the shipping dept. But then again that wasnt a very good way to wrap that hood to ship it either. Hope all turns out good for you

I know... they should of atleast put some cardboard or something on the edges. If it was a bumper, thats different. I shipped a bumper in nothing but bubble wrap and layers of saran wrap, but thats a polyurethane bumper. Not a fiberglass 40lb hood....

Maybe the shop I go to can fix it. He wanted $250 to paint it.... I really don't want to go much higher than $300 but I have a feeling for fiberglass work and paint it will go over that... sigh

I was gonna repaint it anyways... after looking REAL closely to the pics from the Ebay listing the BAD chip does not seems to be there. However one of them on the corner dose.

I am enlarging the pics as much as I can and sharpening them to try and see if any of this was there before he shipped it...

It was a private sell. Like I said, depending on the price it will cost to re riberglass all the chips will determine my action. If its not that much, I will just have it repaired to get this done with. If its more than I am willing to pay, then I will try to go through UPS, if they will not fix it, then I will request a refund.

Dang Z, that hood is jacked up. I would be pissed right now if i was you.

our hoods are actually made of SMC, not fiberglass. Just thought id throw that out there

Yes it could be fixed, for 50 dollars, No way.

That hood is pretty badly damaged, the two big chunks missing would be a pita to fix. The corners not so bad, but still a pain.

i would say if you get someone to fix it right, youd be looking at at least $200 worth of repair time. The damage is bad enough that unless you were to repair it yourself, it just wouldnt be economical to repair. It will be a big pita to fix the spot in the last picture correctly.

Can you take some pics of that last spot, where the metal is showing, that lets me see the damage a little better? and maybe where the chunk is missing from the front of the hood?

That sucks man, i cant remmeber how much you paid for it?

Not positive think UPS has a 100.00 limit on uninsured items.

$150 shipped...

I enlarged and sharpened the pics that were on ebay and I found two problem areas. the BAD chunk missing does not seem to be there... so that may have acually happened in shipping.

I am tempted to find out the number of the UPS store he shipped from, call them, and ask what condition it was in when he brought it in.. if they will tell me that.

These are the problem areas I found:

Travis, what is SMC so I can tell the body shop tomorrow?

SMC is Sheet Molded Compound.

It is kinda like fiberglass, but its not. Thats why people always confuse it with fiberglass. All the "fiberglass" parts on our cars are actually SMC

It has different repair methods than fiberglass. If your bodyshop doesnt know how to repair it, they might just try and fix it with fiberglass. And yes you could fix it with fiberglass, only it wouldnt be fixed right, and the repair could fail down the road.

Nope, nothing in the bubble wrap. I checked and that is one thing making me question this asshole.

I am probally going to request a refund. He will be out alot of money, but it serves him right. I want to give this guy the benefit of a doubt, but its so hard. He will end up losing money if I request a refund. since he used all but $40 from the hood to ship it.

I found a seller on ebay (D&H Auto Parts) offering a painted hood w/o a scoop for $408. I will probally go that route and buy a scoop later down the road.
