Cobra bumper mesh project

Well, had an idea today and I ran with it. I upgraded to a Cobra front a few months back, and have always felt that the bottom opening looked plain due to my lack of a SS and Intercooler Lol. So, I had the idea today about adding some mesh in there. I found that the local hardware store had some really cheap mesh.

At first I was unsure because it was a square pattern. However after looking at it I think it looks just as good as the diamond you always see.

The hard part was getting this stuff secure. I could not use bolts since they should show. So I decided to use Double Back Tape and Epoxy. I did not have nearly enough Epoxy, and the mesh is very stubron about fitting. The Double backed tape did not help much either. It keeps wanting to warp back out to its original shape. I plan to buy some more Epoxy and go at it again tomorrow.

I used a Self Etching Primer, Universal Gloss Black, and Clear for the paint. Some of it was chipping when installing, but I think it was just due to my rushing of the cure time. If it does chip, I can always tape it off and re-do it.

Here are some pics

What do you all think? The pics suck... Hopefully I can complete it and get some good pics tomorrow.

I am thinking about using the left over mesh to put some behind the extra opening in the Fog bezels.

I am sure people will be torn on it. I am sure someone will make a ricer comment as well

I just did not like the large opening with nothing but the bottom of a radiator behind it.

I look at it this way; when I am done if I realize it does look out of place, I can always remove it. I will be out time and money, but hey... never get anything good without taking risk.

I will not really know if i like until you get the bumper back on the car. But so far I will say it doesnt look half bad. Also Zat, the pillars between the opening have you had any fading of the paint/lack there of?

It's not bad and definitely unique. I guess if it was me I would have gone with a mesh that didn't have such big gaps. But I think that'll look really nice when you get it on the car

Nope. The paint is not as thick there. You got your bumper from the same place as mine didn't you? I think they failed to pay much attention to the paint inside the foglight holes and near the back of the bottom opening.

Lets hope so... I went with this mesh because for 33" of it I only had to pay $3.50 hehe

When i first read the Thread title i was thinking "oh no this is going look bad". But after looking at your install it look pretty good, great job man! Nice clean job.

Im wondering if the mesh will warp inward after time, due to the air being forced through the mesh. Post a picture of the bumper on the car.

For me personally, if i had a Cobra bumper i would keep the opening & paint the bottom of the radiator and surrounding areas flat black. I think the large opening & grille delete match together perfectly. Thats jus me

That does look good. Leaving it silver along with the silver bolts gives it a really nice look. Kinda Performance/Industrial kinda look... I like it.

I just applied some more Epoxy. I went with the 1min epoxy and my GOD does it dry fast. Almost to fast. You better be ready to put it on.

I am still not 100% satisfied with how well its glued, but I don't think its coming off. I'm just a perfectionist I suppose. About to go put the bumper back on.

Got everything back on today. It's acually hard to see in the pics. I had to do a bit of editing to get it to show up good. You can see it in person alot better tho.
