Filling in Cobra lettering

So I was bored and im having car withdraws since its parked for the winter so i figured hey.. why not do this. so i bought some bumper repair kit shit, and i started filling it last night. i did a few coats and sanded and i just applied another coat. takes a while to fill it all in, im getting there. this is my first time doing it so im extremely bad though, so dont be too harsh on me. plus its not done yet. maybe one more layer to go.

but let me know what you think so far. its pretty stressful lol i dont want to fuck my bumper up.

be careful using too much filler on plastic... it will crack and fall out... They make a specual flexable filler for plastics... (Or epoxy...) Jsut make sure it is compatable with urithane bumpers...

its going to be a while before i get it all painted though. do you think that a flat black primer would match the urethane bumper color? cause its almost more of a....dark dark grey as opposed to a black.
mind you i guess it doesnt really matter, my car is like 10 shades from white to black already as it is.

I always like how the 03/04 Cobra rear bumpers looked, they have that extra flat black panel on the bottom. Also curious on how your letter filling will come out, keep us posted on how it turns out

I wish Steeda made their own bumper that says... "Steeda" on the back, i would buy one in a heart beat!

yeah i like em too. plus the shape of the whole thing looks alot better, i just hope when i get it painted they tape it off proper, theres like a small gap between the black panel and the bumper and i dont know if the gap gets painted or left black. its confusing.

When you are sanding, dont produce to much heat(snading with too much pressure and for to long at a time) because you might have problems with the repair material trying to peel up on the very fine feathered edges once you get it sanded down level. When you start getting into the bumper dont use anything less than 120 grit. Anything lower is really to rough to use on sanding a urethane bumper. Idealy if you can get your hands on a DA sander use it with some 120 to shape the repair material, and then finish sand it by hand with some 180 to remove the 120 scratches and then feather out any paint edges and finish removing the sand scrathes around the repair with some 220 or 320 on your da

unless the "gap" has sand scratches in it, they should leave it black. the black panel on the bottom and the gap should be left black.

ive been using 220 for everything, is that bad? i didnt want to scratch much of anything, when i finish the last coat ill do it all with a really fine grit just to smooth it out a bit more.

Not really bad, it will just take longer, and it would be easier to do the rough sanding with a lower grit.

I wouldnt take your repair material any finer than your 220 though, i actually like to finish my bumper repairs with 180

The 320 is just for removing scratches and feathering the paint, I wouldnt go that high for the finish sanding on the filler. You want some nice profile on it so the primer has something to grab on to. 320 leaves it to smooth for finish sanding on bodywork imo, because the profile that is left is to fine for the primer surfacer

alright well i have a couple more sheets but i dont know what grit they are, i might just stick with 220. like you said it'll take longer but i really dont want to use rougher than that. ill see if i have some 180 though.. wont go finer than 220 though, thanks! ill take pics when done...or if you dont see pics i fucked it up and am crying in the corner
