Painting Calipers
I have VHT spray and i am wondering if it is worth the trouble of taking the caliper off and spraying it on the ground? Or should i just mask off the fender well with news paper and tape and spray them hanging there? Also, should i use a clear coat over this, or would just the VHT be enough?

well if you take the caliper off you would have to bleed out the lines when you put the calipers back on ... People aren't going to get way toooo up close and personal on the calipers ... I think I'd just tape off the wheel well and the fender to paint the calipers

Use masking tape to protect pads and other brake parts, and sand the brake down and sand off all rust. Spray the paint in a dish, then apply the paint from the dish on the the brakes with a paintbrush and do 3 coats or so, I shouldnt need clear, if they get bad looking just throw off the wheels are redo them. It works great, Have done that to about 12 wheels

I would definatly brush it on, becuase if you spray it then there is a good chance it will spray onto a place you dont want it, or it wil run into places you dont want it. Brushing you can control it alot better

Take caliper off of rotor, but leave the brake line attached...Use something to hold caliper up (I used a jackstand
)...Then use newspaper or trashbags to cover everything else ![]() ![]() And finished ![]()

I was thinking that might be easier (in a sense) as well. Calipers didn't need to be compressed to go back on, did they?

Damn that looks good! Great job... I think as long as i do a good job masking everything off i'll be fine. I think spraying looks a lot smoother than bushing. Well without being VERY time consuming. Did you turn it around and paint the backside too?

Yeah, thats what i was gonna do... i'm just worried about how to come about spinning it around with the line on there. I wish it was easy to take all the lines off so i can just spray them in a more open area.

Take it off. Why risk getting paint all over something you don't want it on just to avoid bleeding the brakes afterwords?

Well first off, welcome to MM. As far as benefits of painting your calipers goes, appearance is what it's for. This is really just meant to compliment your wheels and make your calipers look better (since they're usually quite dirty before you realize they look terrible).
