First and foremost give you car a good wash, clay bar, and wax treatment before you start fooling around with paint. You'd be amazed what dimples seem to disappear. Then go on from there and access if the damage is worth potentially making you more unhappy with your paintjob. You can easily go a little brush/pen heavy and get a bit of a bad run of paint going where you didn't attend.
If you went through the correct process of sanding, primer, paint, and clear coat it probably would come out as intended and be nearly identical to the factory paint job. I used it on some creases and dings on my Amazon Green and it was a pretty close match. From 3 feet away you can't tell the difference unless you're really looking for it. I got those results just using the included ball point pen. Rubbing compound does wonders too, try that before paint as well.

The Ford Vista Blue touch up paint is an exact match. I have 2 bottles, and they are identical. A/M paint is always a little off. I have used a toothpick to dip in the paint for small chips.

While the paint is identical, that doesn't mean the finished product will be identical.

will i have to sand and everything? Or just touch the pen/toothpick to the little chip/ding?

It depends on the size of the dents I believe.

Go to a ford dealer in the body shop section, give the dude behind the counter your vin # and he will give you an exact match paint, that how I got my touch up paint.

I have used this method of repairing paint chips many times with great results. It will work alot better for solid colors, but sometimes you can get metalic colors like silver to work for you also.
95% of the time you can't notice it unless your right on top of it. You can use the pre-mixed touch up paint, but it MIGHT not match exactly. If you want to make sure the color will match better, you can go to you local paint jobber and have them use "the magic eye" on your car to eliminate the cahnce of having the paint not match. What i mean by magic eye is, it is a box that you hold on the paint on your car and it reads the actual color to account for fading, color variences, already repainted surfaces that do not match the factory color perfect, etc... I have painted many cars that when i went to mix the formula there will be nine or ten different color variences from the factory, so just because you have the same paint code as the car next to you, it doesn't mean that you have the exact same color from the factory. That is the main reason pre packaged touch up paint doesn't match exactly most times. I also use one of my old pinstriping brushes(0000) to apply the paint. Get some single stage paint for your cars color. Then just clean the area real good, you can use wax and grease remover and a fibrglass prep pen if you want to get real picky about it. After you clean, apply the single stage to the chip putting just enough paint on there to have it slightly raised above the surfacce of the paint. After the paint has fully cured take some 2000 grit wet or dry sand paper and wet sand the "bump" smooth with the surface of the paint. The easiest way to do this would be to find a small piece of wood or something to use as a tiny block. I take coffee stirrers and cut it into about a 1" piece. Then cut s small piece of paper to wrap around the block. Don't press to hard, just place enough pressure on the block to sand the bump down. Just don't get in a hury and pay attention and you can block it down with barely sanding the origanal paint surface, which in turn will make it easer to buff . (Always let your paper soak in the water for at least five minutes before use) After you have sanded it down, the area will be small enough that you can buff it by hand(or with a buffer if you have access to one and can use it. I have a 3" air buffer i use) with a soft cloth and compound, it will take a couple times with the buffing but if the color is a good match then once you have buffed the shine back you will barely notice it This thread has some more stuff about it in it Touch up paint

Just to add to Travis, if you have a local body shop supply store like a Car Quest paint and body, you can pick up some 2500 and 3000 grit to make the job alot easier. One pass with a buffer with just 2500 and you'll get it out with the right pad/polish combo.
I have also heard from Ryan that Sherwin Williams has paint codes for this type of application and can put single stage paint into a spray can if you want. I'm thinking about doing it for my girlfriends car after she hit a dead deer. I've got to fix a small spot for her.

When I was painting oil rigs, I had one of the machines that loaded the spray cans. I used sherwin williams paint and we got them to get us one of them. It was VERY handy to be able to have an aerosol can with ACTIVATED paint inside it. Made doing touch ups extremely easier. And you can load anything into one of those cans, even clearcoat. There were a few times i needed clearcoat in a can to do a touch on a show rig that was painted BC/CC(yeah it sucks to paint a rig with basecoat and clearcoat). So i mixed up some clear, leaving the reducer out because the spraycans come with reducer in it already, and pumped it in a can. Did the repair with that and a can i loaded with straight basecoat, and i never had a problem with the clear acting funny or whatever.
So just saying, if you can talk them into loading it into one of there cans, you could do actual activated automotive clearcoat out of a spraycan if you wanted to. Just use within a few hours of getting the can loaded.
