a "normal" paint job would get one light-medium coat, and two wet coats.
But the amount of coats of clear you put on wont make it "look like" the factory clearcoat. Im assuming you are talking about matching the orange peel(the texture) of the original clear. That is controlled by air caps, fluid nozzles, air pressure, etc..... Pretty much everything but the amount of coats put on lol. Being able to match factory orange peel is hard to explain to someone, it is one of those things you get from just spraying alot of clearcoat and figuring out how to control and setup your gun to achieve what you want.

With how easy paint comes off, and gets faded on Mustangs i would have thought 1 super light coat lol

The base coat doesnt affect the orange peel in the clearcoat. The only way to not have any orange peel is to sand and buff the clear.
Unless you have a very good painter and he does a perfect flow coat, but flow coats are pretty much non existent in production paint jobs because the time and effort involved in it is only worth it on a show car quality paint job.

I'm not too worried about orange peel I'm just worried about the over all shine of the car matching that of the bumper it doesn't have to be dead on balls accurate just close enuff to tide me over until I get the whole car redone in about a month
