Continuation of the "Interior Blackout Project"

Well, its been about a year since my large project of painting my entire interior. The only part missing has been my seats, carpet, and headliner. Well, I am chaning that starting today.

I REALLY wanted to get Black Leather seats. However due to price and rarity I am not gonna be able to. So, I decided on getting my cloth seats re-upholstered. However with recent events, I can not even afford that. So... I decided to take some fabric paint to them.

Now, I know this is not a good solution and it is temporary until I do get them reupholstered. However I wanted them to match for the biggest show I go to in June and I know it will be after that before I can get them reupholstered.

I just layed down about 2 coats on the driver seat. I don't have pics uploaded yet, but they will be uploaded.

Cost so far:

~ 4 cans of Black Fabric paint - $30

You should look on craigslist for seats out of other stangs, there are several on mine.
Waiting for pics....

It made them less soft to the touch. Durability seems good for now, but only time will tell. I still have a can left of paint. Gonna put one more coat on them tomorrow and let it dry all day then put them back in.

I know you know a lot more than me about paint but I have heard of people painting their seats and having it rub off on their clothes. I would go for a drive in some old white clothes to test it lol.

yea, you need to let it dry for a few days to make sure that doesnt happen.

to solve the softness thing, i've heard you can steam clean them and it will take out that hard feeling.

I will have to try that... my GF's mother just bought a small steam cleaner. I am going to put a small thin coat on them in the morning and let them sit all day before putting them back in.

Again, this is just a temp thing until I get them re covered sometime this summer.

Wow, i would think it would have a crunchy feeling to it, like stiff starched paint spots on jeans. Thats so weird how that worked. Great job man!

But hey, atleast its not off the wall stupid things and if I could afford some black leather, I would be all over that like white on rice.

It did lose alot of the softness, and it does have a stiff feel to it. I am going to see if I can barrow my GF's Mother's small household steam cleaner tomorrow and see if that works. Again, this is just temp.

I wonder how much it will cost to get these things re covered in back fabric of the same quality as stock?

Looks good Zat

I had an old camaro that had the seats black like that. They were a little stiffer, but it went away after a while. The steamer sounds like a good idea though.

That was because of the flash from the camera, they are a very dark charcole color.

I got the driver seat in. If you scratch the seats with your fingernail it flakes off. However how often is that going to happen? I also pressed hard in one area with my forearm when moving it and it made it come off some... just repainted that section. So its not a permenent thing by far, but it will do until I get some extra cash.
