Cobra Fogs... which set?

So.. gonna grab me some fogs for my Cobra bumper to finally complete it. Now heres the problem... I can't decide where to buy them from.

I found this set:
03 04 FORD MUSTANG COBRA CHROME FOG LIGHTS+BULBS LH/RH : eBay Motors (item 170437949834 end time Mar-27-10 17:30:09 PDT)

It is the cheapest, and I could care less about the "wire harness" since I am gonna buy some regular pig tails for HIDs anyways. I will try out the harness before ordering them tho, as the harness may serve the purpose I need without spending the extra $20 for pigtails.

Now, I don't want chrome. These are chrome. However I has VHT. My question is; Would light coats of VHT give a Chrome housing a smoked look? I am thinking it would make it appear shiny on the inside with a smoked cover?

Hmm... I bet the lense is glued on. If thats they case, I would run the risk of cracking it trying to disasemble them. Kinda like the guage clusters' plastic covering.

I think VHT would give them the look I am after tho. I don't want them very dark, just a light smoke.

I know on the GT fogs the difference between the aftermarket smoked and clear is hard to tell. I could not see the difference intill i had both sets in my hand. So i think a lite coat of your VHT will do.

Found this set as well:

MUSTANG COBRA LINCOLN LS 00 01 02 03 04 fog light PAIR : eBay Motors (item 400109774497 end time Apr-16-10 07:09:02 PDT)

Im curious about this wiring harness that comes with them. If it works, and I can use the plugs it provides for HIDs, then its a great solution.

Any insight? I might toss them a call tomorrow and see if they can explain it any.

Ordered a set that came with the wire harness. Should be here Firday.
Hopefully this harness elminated the need for the pig tails and I can use HIDs with it.

I speculate its just the pigtails wired to a box that connects the Power and Ground plus a switch. If thats the case I will just cut off the switch and box and have the pigtails by themselves.

Ordered the screws from LMR and will order the HIDs at the beginning of April.

Why bother when I can tint them myself? They want $50 more for tinted lenses...

Just grab you some sand paper, VHT, Clear, and some buffing compound and call it a day. Plus, I would need to buy pigtails ($20 more). These come with a wire harness that I should be able to make work with HIDs.

He is correct.. Or do this:

black auto paint, some clear.

Get your clear all mixed up and ready to go. Add some black in the clear until its dark like you want it. Then spray away.

Basically like a single stage.

My tail lights with VHT are holding up just fine?

Can't do the single stage idea... no paint equipment.

Well, its not like VHT is expensive hehe. One $12 can did both of my tail lights with half a can to spare. They have not begun to fade a bit.

I am sure the front will not last as long, but I was not willing to spend $70 more in the long run just to have them tinted and stay that way. I could buy 5 cans of VHT for that much and I think it will take barely any to tint them.

So ya... its more work on my part, but I don't mind.

I think they will look good with a light coat of vht on them Z.

And If your worried about them fading, you can always put some clear over the vht that has uv inhibitors

Im not bashin ya for a suggestion man, just tellin ya what I have observed. My tails have been tinted for a good... year now? and have shown no signs of the slightest fading. Its all in the prep and protection. Did you wax the things that you used VHT on as well? I know it will see more abuse up front, but I don't think it will fade so fast to make spending an extra $70 worth it. I may be wrong... time will tell.

Plus you know me... You think I don't like my car lookin its best at all times?

trust me, prep was no issue when i did mine. my dad use to be a painter and passed down all the tricks of the trade. and i know that the final product is 100% a direct result of your prep work. so, no issues there. thats why my tails were done with a basecoat/clearcoat, and look flawless.
