Cobra Leather

Since i first got my mustang, i have been dying to put leather seats in it. Tonight i finally bought the leather upholstery from a 99 cobra. It shoud be here in a week or so but up until that point, im just wondering what i am up against. (Difficult parts, certain tools, random things i will need to know, ect.)
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions that would help me out? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Gonna be fun for ya, to recover New edge front seats, its is pretty much a pain to get them to look really great, unless you have alot of experince. Im not even sure if the seat foam will be the same, cause im pretty sure the cobra and GT seats are different, but maybe thats just the termi's and not the 99 cobras

Worst thing about those seats are the vertical seams are glued in, instead of using hog rings, velcro, or rods like every other seat out there. Stupid ford lol. So getting the seams glued in just right for when you stretch the cover to the back and not having wrinkles is kinda tricky

Alright, so, would you recomend taking them to a shop to do the install? (If it fits) Id prefer anything else, and time/patience arent really issues since i am a perfectionist when working on things.

If it doesnt fit, could i possibly just buy a little more foam padding and glue it on or cut down on it if thats what it takes, or is it more complicated than that?

Next, once again, im new to this but is it possible that i could switch it to velcro or something like that to make it easier?

Sorry for all the questions, i just want to achieve the best possible results, and the amount of work isnt as big of an issue as cost. Thanks for your help so far though!

P.S. I dont know if this will work since the auction has technically ended, but this is the front pieces.

Update: I Found this statement on a wikipedia article about mustang cobra updates.
"Cobra-specific seats with a combination of leather and alcantara [suede-like microfiber] inserts - 1999 Cobras had normal Mustang seats."

yeah you could, it would be ALOT of work though. I have rebuilt seat pads that were all worn out and i just cut out the bad foam and re shaped it with new foam. I would glue the new foam in ad shape it. So yes, if the basic pad shapes are the same you could reshape it with new foam to make the covers fit.

Next, once again, im new to this but is it possible that i could switch it to velcro or something like that to make it easier?

Yes, I never thought of that before Thank you!

You would have to find the right kind of velcro, not sure where you could get it though. Normal velcro isnt going to work. It is a special kind of velcro. The velcro is alway just glued to the pad anyways so thats no problem. The soft part of the velcro that goes on the seat pad is sewn in though. But if you can sew, or know someone that can sew, it could then be put on the cover and your set.

Ok. Thanks for the help. Is there anything that i need to know before taking off the cloth seats? Do i just pull them off carefully? I would like to try and sell them after i put the cobra upholstery on. Oh, i also found out that the 99 cobra used the same seat style as the v6 and GT. The only small difference that i noticed was that there was more horizontal ribbing in the leather than in my cloth seats. []|||[] cobra seat back vs [][][] stock seat back.

Also, is there some place i could go/call/email/ect for more advice on doing this myself? (I was thinking of maybe an upholstery shop but that would probably be closer to funiture.)

Whyy in the world would you want leather? I hateee it. If there's one thing I miss from my v6 is the cloth interior.

Haha, ill sell you the cloth after i get it off then. Leather seats are just my preference. I love the way they look and feel.

Well, today i was bored and curious, so i decided to take the cloth off of my seats. I got to the front ones and looked and, no glue, everything was velcro or just clips. With it the way it is, do you think installation will be a lot easier or will i have to put the velcro on the cobra leather? (maybe starting in 03 they used velcro instead of glue, idk)

Awe, thats great! They mustve stopped gluing them after the sn95s. It should be as easy as just putting the cobra covers on now. Get yourself a steamer, and it will make everything alot easier. It will get the leather nice and supple, so you can stretch and manipulate the cover better going on. Any more questions just ask em.

Wow, wouldnt have thought of the steamer idea. And i dont believe that i have anymore questions. Thanks a million for all your help though. I found this while searching. Mustang Leather Interior - Motorz TV

I know it's not quite the same but the concept is there and it looks pretty helpful. I've already taken a lot of pictures so that i know precisely how everything came apart so i think once im done with the whole thing i will do a write up on it for anyone else.

Yeah, i skimmed through that video, and it looks pretty helpful. Seams he was doing just like i do them.

Also when you are done, let your car run with the heater blowing full blast for an houir or more. Those kits are made a little big to help in putting them on, and when they get heated up nice by either the heater or idealy setting outside on a 90 degree day all daywith the windows up, the leather will shrink some and tighten up and help remove even more of your wrinkles.
