Shaved doors
Anyone shave doors on a '94-98 v6? Seen videos of how to shave doors but never on a mustang and want to know any tips, tricks, or hints that you wish you had known before starting on it. I know the basics of installing the system from seeing videos and want to do it myself due to budget and realize it's a pretty big project so I'd appreciate any serious input. Also, cheapest I've find for a good system is $900, anyone who has done it know of a cheaper system that is still good?

You're going to attempt this after watching a few videos?
Can you weld good? Have you ever done body work on a car before? If not, you probably should leave it to someone who can do it with no questions asked. It's definitely an expensive and labor intensive project and done wrong can completely ruin the doors. Last thing you'd want to do is try it yourself, screw up your doors, and the kit and have to replace it all. Double the cost with no benefits. |

I can weld, sand, primer, paint. I got a welder and paint supplies except I am repainting to a custom paint job, and I got the right tools except I still haven't bought the system cause I am not sure $900 is a good price even though I know the system is good cause people I've talked to use it and everyone likes it. I know what I am getting into because I have watched videos and my brother has done it but on a mini truck and he didn't do it all by himself, he had a good amount of help and I am very VERY mechanical.
I am asking because if you see a 94-98 the doors have some curves and I think it could end up being a big hassle but it costs more to have someone else do it when I can use my brother, dad, and myself who all know custom paint and body work. It just comes down to any tips, hints, or tricks you wish you had known. I am doing sanding and bondo right now because I want to get dents, scratches and rust out so I figure I should do the doors in a month or two cause by the end of summer it will get painted. Also (I am sure some Mustang enthusiasts won't agree) but I removed the emblems, I removed the antenna, and think it would look best if I shave the doors too. This is going to be a show car and I will be adding a decal on the back windshield of the pony logo, I am just wanting a shaved car and if anyone disagrees oh well... My car, my money, that's the way I see it. Even thinking of shaving the back license plate.

tip: make sure you check your laws first. in some places there has to be a handle on the door.

If you feel that you can do it then by all means go and do it, it's your car and as long as you like it then who cares. As you will soon find, these types of mods are usually avoided on this forum as they typically don't look too good on our cars. Although if done right it certainly has potential.
But hey either way post pics of the build, I really would like to see this.....especially if it fails. On a somewhat side note I hate when people refer to bondo as anything other than a brand. I mean when you say, "I can bondo," what the hell is that supposed to mean. That's like saying, "I like to baseball." |

If i were going to do it, i would use panel bonding adhesive, instead of welding a patch in. You will have absolutly no heat warpage from not having to weld, which will make the final bodywork very easy.
As for the components, I would only use autolock brand stuff.
