Yeah, ac panel, dash lights, and shift lights... (I have an auto ... )

just took this pic, I put a cd player in that I had laying around, getting ready for a car show, only I need to find a different one. I forgot it was green :/ lol.

Btw, it looks way better in person. Very sharp, and a good rich red!

The red lighting Looks waaay better than stock! I went red because my car is red. But with yours being black, blue would look pretty good to. Pretty easy either way.

I say stock during the day, red at bight because I didn't change the gauge face or anything, so without the lights on, it looks completely stock. Then night hits and BAM... Red

any local auto store with have switches I don't know of any online sites with great prices, but I'm sure places like jcwhitney.com, summitracing.com, and jegs.com probably have them. Might pay a little more for them tho.

sweet. thanks man. has anyone tried putting a switch in that little coin holder thats in front of the cup holder. to me its pretty useless and i would love to put a switch there, but i dont know if the gap is too big or if getting the wiring through there from the cig lighter inside the middle glovebox would be too difficult or not

Wiring would not be difficult, you have plenty of room to work with there. You can splice into the wiring from either cig lighter, or run a wire from the fusebox, or even your battery if you want (if running a wire from the batter, be sure to include a fuse for safety) all you need is a 12v hot when the key is in the ON or ACC position, and a ground (any bare metal you can bolt the wire too, or ground wire)

I have not personally put a switch there, but I have seen it done before, and I have a friend who did pretty much that in his Thunderbird I believe, I can't remember if he put it in the coin holder, or just somewhere on his center console. I'll find out and let you know, here is the switches he used.

hmm I just did this but didn't think to place it in the cig lighter spot! I have mine snug against the drivers side of the steering wheel. Thanks to the info in this post I plan to change that now!!

+1!!

I did mine as you see in the picture above. I had to replace them though cause before i put finishing touches on puting the wires out of harms way i ripped out the one on the drivers side, so I got some differnet ones and rewired to the same spot. I am thinking about taking the LEDs that I pulled out and reinstalling them somewhere else.

1. Where to put them. Thought about under the driver and pass seat oriented backwards to flood the floorboards in the back seats, but might be pretty useless. Also thought about putting them inside the two dash vents on the extreme right and left of the dash. also thought about inside the vents on the main console near the above the radio.

2. only prob with putting them inside the air vents is how to run the wire, and would it be a problem when i run the A/C?

3. Also, where to mount the switch. I want to keep the 12v accessory output in the center console for charging my phone. May have to actually figure out how to wire into the fuzebox (something Ive never done)

Wiring into the fuse box is really simple, I've done it before, and will take a pic of my car tomorrow and show ya. I'm using my stock cd player, so I ran a wire to the fusebox as my remote/accessory wire for my sum amp.

Also, I'm sure you can mount them in the ac vents, (as long as it physically fits) and I don't see an issue with the cold air hitting it. The heat in the winter,... MAYBE, but I DOUBT it's hot enough to effect it.

As for runnin the wires, I'll check and see if you can run them out of the way sneakily, (I've wanted to try vent LEDs since you mentioned it, lol.) and if that doesn't work, you might have to drill a small hole in your ventilation "pipes" for your wires to run out of and behind the dash.

I'll try and post pics tomorrow.

putting lighting in the vents is a nice accent. its not hard to do, i had it in mine for a long while until recently...i also had it in the door handles too. let me see if i can find some pictures.

edit:
nope cant find any...its fairly simple though.

Tiger and Johnson...thanks...I am looking forward to seeing your pics. I thought about the door stuff, but thought it might be a PITA to pull the pannels off. I poped off the two little ac vents on the extreme left/right of the dash pretty simply. I think the ones lower on the dash board by driver and passengers knees will be a bit more difficult to get off but not too hard and it looks like there is a place to run wires out the back pretty simply. I dont like the "pod" LEDs that I have left over from the origional attempt at this. Much prefer the LED "strips" I got. Much thinner, 3m tape already on the back side, very simple. The "pods" are ok but very bulky.

I was also doing some thinking about inside the center console between the front seats. Maybe put in a false bottom, with some holes drilled in it and mount leds underneith it along with a switch that is activated by opening the top so the light will come on when you open it. Kinda like a glove compartment light. Just a thought.

Damn...all this info and no reps...I'm crushed....lol

Ok, so after checking for myself (before I saw johnson's post) there is plenty of room
for LEDs. I did take some pics, but they aren't they greatest. I'll see about posting them shorly.

As for the door panels, they aren't too hard to get off actually. I've removed them
on mine before, and I currently have them off on my '97 stang I'm working on. I'll see if I can find a "how to" for removing them.

And for your center console idea, that's pretty neat, let me know how that project goes if you decide to try it.

I ordered some LEDs to work with, but they are just the single 5mm style, I'll let you know how they turn out when I get them in the car, it may be 2-3 weeks :/

the second picture is a close up of where the center vents are. The dark area at the top is about a 1 in. Gap that wires can be ran around and stuff. Should be pretty easy.

Those pics are great....but how do get the trim piece "off" from around the radio and vents? Does it just pop off like around the shifter? Do I need to remove anything first?

yup, just pops right off... I remove the trim piece around the shifter first, then I can grip the upper trim piece at the bottom edges and pull straight out. pretty simple.

If I get a chance, I'll post of a pic of the clips on the back of the trim piece.

( I should start checking this thread more!)
