it's been a couple years since i did them and can't remember who i got them from. vinyl is very thick though and pretty poor quality. doesn't cover the entire lense on any of the lights

I dont think it has a name, but Im sure its vinyl. IMHO, go with paint. Road grime and exhaust might warp, fade or cause the vinyl damage. Im hoping to get mine dont...eventually.

On the OPs question - tint > spray. The biggest pro for tint is that if you ever want to go back to stock, you can. With spray you cannot. And tail lights arent really cheap, even on ebay. Maybe craigslist. A con to tint is you have to wax it. Not often. Manufactor is 6 months, I do it once a month (course I use spray wax once a month no matter what). And if you dont really buff off the extra wax, it builds up around the edges and you get white edges...

Tint - easy to remove, just alittle more TLC for optimum long term enjoyment.

Hmm why do you want to take it off? Get pulled over or something? Btw just to add I think the rustoleum lens tint is very good, people rag on it a lot and I have no idea why. Thats what I used for mine (except for 3rd brake light I used vinyl for the word "mustang") No sanding or anything, just did a quick layer of adhesion promoter and 3 or maybe 4 coats of the tint to get what I have in my sig pic. Still shines and is perfectly uniform.

EDIT: Heres a bigger pic just because it doesnt look that great in a small pic.

I can happily say I have never been ticketed for my car but I have been pulled over twice.

1.) Right after getting my Flowmasters. The officer thought I had removed the cats and told me to go back to stock or he'll ticket me everyday. I went to the courthouse and got that fixed.

2.) Tinted tail lights. Officer didnt believe you could see the tail lights at night so I turned them on that evening and showed him and he let it go.

I live in Casselberry, FL. The cops give tickets if you lift your ass cheek to fart while driving...

I disagree and would say that I prefer spray>tint. With spray, it's EASY to make the tail lights 100% LEGAL for cheap. A can of spray, clear, masking tape, and sandpaper will run less than $25. No need to remove them as they can be made perfectly legal. Mask off the reflectors and spray. With the correct light output AND the reflectors untinted, it'll be legal in most states (check state laws as they vary from state to state). No special upkeep needed and they'll last forever.

Seeing as how they're legal, no one can screw you over if you're rear ended. It's fairly common for people to say they couldn't see the brake lights b/c they were tinted (makes fault of person getting rear ended). Not a problem if sprayed right as they're legal.

If you want to do that with tint, good luck. If you cover up the reflectors, they're going to be illegal. How much are you going to pay or how much time are you spending to have the relectors cut out of the tint?

Ultimately, it's a personal preference. Some people will use tint for it's advantages. Some people will use spray for it's advantages. None is 100% better than the other. I just prefer spray over tint.
