Sprayed Smoked Lights vs Vinyl
I have a can of Rustoleum Tint spray for lights. I Just smoked my 3rd brake light (maybe a little to dark), and im contemplating doing the rest of my lights. Should i just buy some Tint Vinyl instead? Doing my 3rd brake light was a b*tch and i defintely dont want to waste my time with the other lights if they are going to look like crap? What do you guys think? Does anyone have pictures of lights with this type of paint?
I want mine to look like the mustang to the left in this driveway http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z.../dsc06679k.jpg

vht night shades i dont know if it is simmilar to the stuff you have but it was easy to tint my tail lights with it so i dont know what to say about rustolium. i guess it is about how bad you paint. the tint stuff looks good to but it does not get the whole tail light. you can also get covers but i think they look funny imo

nope it has a shinny finish. just be careful with how much you use. my tail lights are really dark with 4 coats.

and something I found with VHT, after putting on a few coats to get the color uniform, use a bit of polishing compound on a buffer and as you polish it it will slowly thin out and become lighter. that way if when you first spray it is to dark you can slowly lighten it up. I tried to wetsand with 1500 to lighten it, but ended up with streaks from pressure I put on the sandpaper...

It turned out shitty because you used rustoleum. I'd use that brand to paint my charcoal grill, but not my lights.
Invest in some VHT niteshads and you'll be happy you did. Take your time, sand between layers, and shoot clear to preserve the finish.

Mine are done with Night Shade, really pretty easy to do and the can is like 10 bucks.. Looks professional, and still maintains a glossy finish! No dust specs or anything, looks like aftermarket taillights . Check out my garage for more pics from the rear end !!

Night Shades FTW...Just put light coats to be sure you don't go too dark.

Yea, and if you do heavy coats it can run and leave spots. The more patient you can be the better it will look

They are probably just too big. You could load them all up to a photobucket site and then put a link to the album in your garage.

Nightshades. 3 coats. Wetsanded with 2000 grit and cleared.
I like how it looks. Can still see the running lights in the day. And they still have a red tint to them.

it is illegal to paint them if you cannot see a reflector with a flashlight... have a problem take it up with local law in your area... sorry to be a downer!

Ha ha i say get the Vinyl tint. You can buy it in light or dark, easy and fast to apply and if you ever get a ticket or not like it simply peel it off. You can get em from stangmods.com. This is a old pic but it has vinyl dark tint on the tail lights 3rd brake light and the side markers in the bumper.
