A car knicked my Stang =(

I'm so upset... a few nights ago I was walking to my car to find that a car bumped my Mustang. I'm assuming this happened here at the apartment complex, as I hadn't seen it prior to that. It's as if a car backed up and cornered the rear right side with the corner of one of their rear bumpers. The paint left on there was white, leading me to believe that the car that did the damage was white. I got all of it off, but left is a 2.5" x 3.5" dent and some scrapes and scuff to the paint. The verticle part of the C scoop looks to have barely been grazed by the car, as the paint there is scuffed.

I called up a friend who knows a good deal on cars and he told me that some dry ice might theoretically pop it out, but I'd be afraid to damage the paint. Then yesterday, I took my car to the Ford dealer that installed my hood scoop and they told me they couldn't pop it out, and that it would need body work since they'd have to fix the dent, blend the paint, and remove and replace my rocker stripe. He said all of this would cost me $793, which I found to be an outrageous figure considering the size of the dent and the minimal scuffs and scratches. I'm probably going to take it to a body shop next week and see what they tell me. Anyone have any suggestions? I've never had this happen before, so I'm not exactly sure what the best way to go about it might be. I definitely want it to go back to its original condition, I just don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it since the insurance deductible is $500 and I can't really afford to pay what the dealership has quoted me.

Wow tough luck. I havn't had anything like that happen yet. I got a couple dents, that are small, but don't hurt the paint. Havn't seen ya around the boards lately...where have ya been? We all know Youngin is gonna be excited to see you again.

it looks like theres a crease and a dent more than likely a door opened into you it is going to be very expensive to fix the crease the dent you can get out yourself with one of those big suction cups at walmart. I would call insurance a lot of companies have a hit and run policy.

That's a pretty large dent for a door. Someone must have been pretty angry to hit another car with their door with that much force. I'd have to choke a bitch if I found out who did something like that to my car and didn't fess up to it. Almost 800 bucks is definately steep for that kind of work. It's all going to be labor, too. The new piece to replace that won't be any more then $400. These dealerships get a way with murder with the prices they charge. Ludicrous

Hey, Cricket. I've been busy with work and all kinds of stuff. Nice to be around again, though.

The crease is actually part of the design of the car. I guess that when the car hit me it pushed that crease inward. Definitely not a car door, though, with all those scrapes. If you look at the first image again it's like their car brushed against my car.

How much are these poppers at Wal-Mart? I may want to try that.

If you got the white paint off the scratches should buff out. The suction cup may work, but I'm not sure due to the awkward location of the dent. Try undoing some of the nuts on the bottum of the fender to get a hammer in there. Don't hammer it, but put the hammer against the dent from the inside and push. It may just pop out. If you decide to bring it to a shop try to remove the fender yourself and just bring that in. That will cut down on labor cast because now they don't have to remove it or remount it on the car.

Damn, now that really sucks Victoria.

It does look like it can be popped out. Check your yellow pages or call a few dealerships for a Paintless Dent Repair person. They might be able to save you a bit of money.

The price you were quoted for the repair does sound pretty high. The quarter panel itself is only $250 and paint shouldn't cost that much.

Good luck and I hope that it turns out well.

i worked at bodyshops for about 6 years. that kind of dent in that particular area looks like it will be a little tricky to just pop out.. not only are you dealing with a dent, you have to consider poping the dent & keeping the shape of the small fender flare... it's not that bad of a dent though.. they will probably end up having to paint the whole fender though. it is extremely hard to blend metallic paint... a dent like that at the bodyshop i used to work at would cost you around 500 bucks to fix.. good luck man!

I had someone hit my front bumper cover in winter and the corner of the bumper shattered.(hit and RUN) when i saw i was so pissed. i went to ford to see how much to fix and they quoted me $3000. What a rip off. Instead i bought a new bumper from ford for 300 and took it to a body show to paint for 350. the whole thing cost on 650 compared to fords $3000. I just love the way ford tries to rip off their reliable customers.
