The tail light tint film strips are shiny and can be undone, but the edges collect dirt and wax and up close you can see it, unless you wipe it off thoroughly.

VHT will be more smooth and shiny (if you make it that way) but can't be undone.

You can undo the vht nightshade if you do it very carefully and right. Plus for all you know someone else could think its vinyl as well and decide to make your tail lights look odd and remove one of the "panels" lol. I used that rustoleum stuff on mine, pic is in sig.

How would I do that? Everything I paint is by rattle can, although I was planning on clearing them tomorrow, when/if I balls up and decide to paint a blackout panel.

Using VHT, Cleat coat, and some sand paper is the best bet.
  1. Scuff the tail lights with something like 600girt
  2. Clean with IPA
  3. Dry
  4. Lay down 2-3 light coats of Adhesion Promoter
  5. let it become tacky
  6. Lay down 2-3 (not more than 3) VERY light coats of VHT. You do not want to lay down much VHT at all... a little goes a long way
  7. Let it become tacky
  8. Lay down 3+ thin coats of clear
  9. Let it dry overnight
  10. Wetsand with 2000 grit sand paper
  11. Compound/Polish
  12. Enjoy

thats what i have on my 99 GT wheels..god its a big difference when shown with a 245...at least to me...then again that looks like a DR on urs...even though the tire size is the same as a street tire i've noticed that they sit different like the height vs width

Yes, clear and black paint mixed is the best option. But you must also have all the proper paint equipement and most people don't have that.

If you're using a rattle can then go with VHT. Then clear when you're done to keep them from fading over time. Don't forget all the sanding to make them shiney.

true. if u dont have the equipment then go with the vht. otherwise to do the other u would have to have mixed paint to add, from like a auto body supply store and you would also have to have a paint gun to shoot it.
