Paint

How do I know if I need to get a fresh coat of paint on my car.. I know I haven't waxed it like I'm supposed to.. I just don't know how much buffing and waxing will bring out.. and the spoiler has water spots.. some came out w/ rubbing compound and nu finish but not much.. is there an easy way to tell?

yeah when your clear coat comes off or you have 100000 deep scratches. Other wise get some compound and a good wax and go to town.

get some good buffing compound & do it yourself OR you can shell out some cash & let a professional detailer do it... if you dont know much about buffing with a power buffer i'd let the pros take car of it! i'm sure it will turn out awesome once they are done! good luck man!

yeah i really dont know that much about it.. theres this place near where im gonna get my windows retinted called "clean toys" and they detail your entire car (inside, out, shampoo carpet, buff, wax, under hood) for somewhere between 1 and 2 hundred dollars all they need is four or less hours and your car then you pay and pick it up.. so ill probably let them do it whoever had it done before me didnt do that great of a job because you could see some swirls.. thanx for the input guys! thatll save me a lot of money!

DO NOT USE A POWER BUFFER. I used to be a detailer just take time and hand buff it. That what we did.

power buffers are definately best left to the guys at the bodyshops... stay away from them, good ol elbow grease will work... & definately make sure that the detailer that you are taking it to is a reputable one as well! you dont need him messing up your paint for sure!!!

There is nothing wrong with using a buffer. Nothing will give you the same mirror like shine as a buffer. The only thing non professionals should stay away from is a high speed buffer. That will eat up your paint if used incorrectly. A good low speed buffer from your local auto parts store is what I use on my car at least once a month. It's what keeps my sister's '92 Camaro looking like it has a new paint job, because the car itself is a POS. If you are taking it to a professional they know what they are doing and if they don't they shouldn't be in business. There is not a body repair shop that I ever heard of that doesn't use one. Why pay someone to hand wax your car if you can do that at home? The high speed buffer is the one thing they have that you don't. That's why the cars that come out of the shop look better than yours.
