Waxing

Waxing your car is A MUST! I have an 06 v6 mustang. I've had it for 10 months and haven't waxed it. I've been using Turtle Wax Ice (in between detailer) and it's been working great. I'm sure it has to be waxed now. A few questions on it:

Do I have to remove the old wax? If so....how?

I've heard of using claybars to remove dirt/grime from the paint. Where do I acquire one of these and how do I use it?

I used Maguire's Gold Class on my last car. It's the paste stuff that you have to put on with an applicator pad. You put it on, wait a few minutes then take it off. What do you guys recommend? And of course I know NOT to do it in the sun. I'm not that ignorant....lol. All help with this matter will be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to wax your car you need to remove the old wax and claybar.

Use Dawn or similar concentrated soap to get rid of the old wax. Once you're done washing your car dry it and clay bar (you can get claybar at an autoparts store like pepboys or get it online). Then wash it again with a standard soap (no added crap like carnuba wax) and throw on your wax.

That's a quick run down. If you want to get really detailed check out http://www.autopia.org

To get your car looking it's best there are only a few things you need to do. I'd remove the old wax with dawn or something of that sort like mentioned above. After the car is nice and clean and dry decide if you want to used the clay bar or not. I used the clay bar because I heard so much about it, but noticed no difference. From what I'm told clay bars don't give you a noticeable difference, but they remove all the little abrasives on your car that you can't see that act like sand paper when you dry it. That step is up to you. I got my Meguiar's clay bar right at my local automotive parts store. After using the clay bar, or not using the clay bar go over your car with 100% Carnauba paste wax just like you are already used to doing, but do not remove the wax. I do sections of my car at a time, and remove the wax with a low speed buffer. I DO NOT RECOMMEND A HIGH SPEED BUFFER. Leave that to the pros because you will eat up you paint job. The low speed buffer can eat your paint too, but it is far less likely. All you have to do is keep it moving while it is on the paint. The low speed buffer gives the wax that mirrored finish like it came from a professional detailer.

If you really want to go all out like the pros look into this kit.

turtle wax ice is a wax and it is a great one at that. You have been waxing your car.

You'll have to put up some before and after pics so we can see if we can tell the difference.

Do you have a link to it? I don't think I've heard of it.

my camera's acting up and the polen got on it in 5 minutes. i've never used a wax like it before; you apply a section and for best results don't let it haze; it wipes to a mirror shine, no powder when removing. i actually enjoyed it

1st coat klasse all in one followed by p21s wax. autogeek.com
a little pricey but should last a good 6 years

Nothing lasts 6 years. That's based on a car kept indoors and exposed to little or no weather. I'd give it 6 months and put on another coat. Actually I'd only give it about two weeks. That's how often I usuallt wax my car, but I get that from my father. I just waxed and buffed my car the other day. When it rained today all the water beaded up and ran off nicely. I forgot to wax and buff my windshield though.

no, i mean if i wax every 3 months and use the polish every 6 months, then the product would last a good 6 years in the container
