scuff it up, use adhesion promoter, then use black trim paint.

It's been done. Its not easy because over time the cowl vent gets brittle and cracks.

You have to sand it to an even surface, tack cloth, prime (2 coats), paint (2-3 coats), and IMO clear coat it. matte finish or gloss (I prefer the latter).

...or just buy a new one for $220 off LMR.

just sand it, and maybe prime it if needed, then trim black.

I just keep mine coated at all times with F21 tire protectant and it stays looking like new. I have no idea what it actually looks like unprotected.

F21 is impossible to find in my area. I worked 7 years in a hardware store and we stocked it, now no one has it. Ive gone to used Turtle Wax ICE products everywhere but the rims.

I think Zatrekaz has his painted gloss black. Just look him up and check his garage.
