Paint touch-up on small nicks

Okay.. my car color is laser red.. i had to take it a body shop about a year ago when i did something stupid and hurt her :-/.. but ne way.. there were several places that hte body shop didnt fix because "its really not possible to touch up those small spots because of the color of your car. wed have to sand prime and repaint that entire part of the car" (ie hood, fender, etc).. i have some small nicks just like the title says.. is it really that difficult to touch it up? and if not where would i find the correct color code and where could i get the paint from cheapest w/o sacrificing quality?

I think it says the color code somewhere on a sticker or something on the inside of your door. like, not ON the door...on the body of the car, but where the door goes over when it's closed.
You can try any Ford dealer for touch up paint, depending on the year of your car though they might not have it...when I went for some at least, the guy said they don't keep it in stock (for a 94), they only keep newer ones in stock or something.

why they would have to do the whole part is because it is extremely hard to blend in paints like yours.. straight black, white, red ect. is easy.. but metallic colors are very hard to blend correctly & most places wont try.
