http://sportscar-parts.com/mivastore..._Code=hoodpins http://www.speedstash.com/sparco_hoodpins.html i like these ... these is a cool rught up if u want to be able to get the hood completely of the car **** Moroso Hood Pins **** Parts list: #1 Hood pin kit (X2) - found at most autoparts stores with aftermarket section #2 Drill - 1/2" chuck preffered #3 1/2" Drill bit #4 General Grease (for marking hood) #5 Phillips head screwdriver #6 Friend who has nothing better to do than help lift the hood on and off If you are like us, and do a fair ammount of engine work and/or modifications, then you know by now that having the hood in the way is a royal pain in the @ss. There are a few ways to fix this problem. One is to just take the hood on and off of its hinges everytime you need to really get into your engine bay. The other is to install hood pins so that you can remove the hood completely when you are doing anything in the engine bay. Personally, since the Project 86 car is undergoing a complete We went with the hood pins. They are placed with 2 in the front and 2 in the rear of the hood. Here is how we installed them. The first thing to do is to decide where you want to mount the pins under the hood. From there you will make the holes for the pins. We chose the brace that runs just in front of the radiator just between the headlights. Space the pins off of the lights about 4 inches, and make a mark to drill. Drill a hole through the brace, making sure that nothing is under where you are drilling. Test fit the pin to see if it fits. Once the pin goes through the hole, remove the pin. Thread one of the 2 nuts onto the pin so that it will be above the brace. Then put the pin into the hole. Thread the 2nd nut onto the pin from the bottom of the brace. Just tighten the nuts snugly, as you will need to adjust the height later on. Set the height as high as you can for now so that it will be easier to make the underside of the hood. Now let's move to the rear pins. The rear pins take a little more creativity to mount. You can't really mount them to the flat spot just infront of the windshield because of the fact that you can't get to the bottom of the pin to secure it. I got a few mounts from the same section of Kragen that I found the pins in. They were labeled as "hoodpin mounts". They are basicly just a bracket that allows you to mount the pins off of a verticle surface. They are mounted to the firewall will 3 screws each. Then follow the same pin mounting as in the previous section. Next take the grease and put a dab on top of the 4 hood pins. Then have your helper help you lift the hood above the engine bay, and slowly, while checking the hoods alignment, lower the hood down on top of the pins so that it is resting on them. This should, if done carefully, will make some marks for you that you can use to cut the holes through the hood. Take your drill and drill through the hood at the marked locations. After you have the holes drilled, you can set the hood into the car to see how the fit is. With the pins sticking through the hood, you can now place the hole covers over the pins, and secure them with the 4 phillips head screws for each cover. Now comes the time to set the height of the pins. This just basicly takes some time and patience. Adjust the pins and recheck the height with the hood on. The cotter pins should go through the hood pins with minimum thouble. Once you have things all set, throw on the hood and get ready for every ricer that sees you want to race you. =) Enjoy.
