VHT vs. overlays
Which is better? I want a blackout look that stills allows light through. I want to do my tails, 3rd brakelight and markers. Can anyone point me to a good write up for the VHT process?

I'm going to go ahead and try the vht this weekend. I'm still on the fence about the blackout panel.

![]() 2. Just spray on 1 coat at a time and take the tail lights out into the sunlight after each so you can see how much light is still getting through. Or you can be like me and spray them until you think they're dark enough, spray 2 more coats just to be sure, put them on the car, find out they're basically black, and pray to god you don't get pulled over every single time you drive the car

I'm guessing I'll need at least 3 coats. I want them as dark as my 5% windows.

![]() ![]() I didn't count my coats, but I'm probably at 5-7 fairly thin coats.

![]() Depending on how thick your coats are, 2 might not be close to enough. This is how my tail lights used to look with 3 really light coats ![]() ![]() They hardly look tinted until you look at a set of stock tail lights then look at them. You can touch it if you want

![]() Make sure you've got gloss clear coat, rubbing compound, polish, and wax. Those will make your tail lights glossy as hell ![]() During the night the light gets through no problem. During the day, I'm not 100% sure. My buddy says he can barely see any light but even distracted soccer mom's seem to be able to see them well enough to know I'm hitting my brakes. I've only almost been rear ended once but the kid was looking down at his cell phone and would have almost hit anyone in front of him Cops never gave me any shit about them either and I had one sitting right behind me in traffic for a while. Another cop said they looked nice (and invited me to an autox event) while we watched fire fighters fuck up my garage door to put out a small fire
