Maaco paint job

I need to get my 99 cobra front and hood scoop painted and I'm thinking of taking it to maaco. I don't know how I feel about maaco b/c I've never seen any of their work. Well, no, I have just not their highest quality package, just their low grade package. I was wondering if anyone could recommend Maacos work with their Signature package?

I hear most Maaco shops can paint pretty well, but they skimp on the prep which is a huge factor in what will make or break a paint job.

This, my local Maaco can paint from what I have seen and heard from people I have seen at car shows who have used them. But the thing is every person prepped the part or car before bringing it to them.

Most shops around me charge 250-300 per panel, Your hood would be considered a panel, just take it to a shop and save the headaches. I have seen Maccos signature with proper prep work and 2 yeqrs later it looked like crap. Macco is the fast food of paint jobs, tastes good but you know its gonna hurt later and it's no good for you.

From what I've seen Maaco's are hit or miss. One shop could do fantastic work and the next will do complete shit work. The one I use was recommended by a friend and is quite a drive for me to get there. But for their price, their work is fantastic. I've had several things painted there and the results were awesome, matches nearly perfectly.

I had some parts painted by maaco, a week later when I washed my car the paint started peeling. They told me that they would prime, paint and clear. All they did was shoot the panels with some oxford white, nothing more. Will never go back there, I can paint better than that with rattle cans.

see, but once again its because no prep work was done to the parts before... Obviously, this is still not your fault, but i feel like if you prepped the pieces yourself, theyd be able to atleast lay the paint on correctly

Ya I'm with 6er, they told me exactly what they were going to do. And then they didn't do it. Yes I could have primed them and got them completely ready to paint, but that is why I paid to have them do it.

you both are totally right. A shop SHOULD DO exactly what they say they will do. There is no excuse for anything else. Im just saying that for a person like me who doesnt have all the necessary tools and space to respray my car, if the prep work was done before hand, maaco might still be good enough to shoot paint + clear on the car.
