i am, i am! My friend is apparently going to put in an order for me for a bunch of cans (which she gets discounted because she works at ACE Hardware), so I will hopefully have enough dip to do the entire car relatively soon here.
Until then, the other pillar will get dipped, and my roof will get vinyld in gloss black (probably this weekend)

And i bought all the ones at lowes. They need a plastidip store. I would be in there all day.

Is it really that impossible to get super straight lines with the Plasti-Dip? I really want to do my wheels and leave my polished lip, but I worry about if the lines will be uneven or not perfectly straight at all even when removing masking while wet.

The dip may leave a jagged edge for a stripe tho... unless you dont mind retaping your stripe after every coat of dip. You see, the dip will stick to the tape itself, so when you peel off the tape, some plasti dip may peel off with it, leaving your line not so straight and perfect... The only way to really avoid this is to remove your tape line after every coat of dip you spray (while the dip is still wet.)

I never thought of that..
But yeah, if I could get the first coat down perfect,
I wouldn't mind re-taping after every coat.
Btw, how many coats are you putting on each section of your car?

Impossible? No, not if you remove the tape when wet after each coat...(very tedious)
My friend just dipped his bullitts today (leaving the lip polished) and pulled the tape after everything had dried, resulting in a non-perfect line...

To be honest, I feel like plasti dip is great for covering enitre surfaces... but once you need a perfect line or edge, its hard to deal with

Hmm, maybe like 5 coats... (first two are real light)
But its not really like I have a magic number or anything... I basically stop when I have full coverage of the panel and it looks good in my eyes

I removed the entire bumper off my car. I taped around the pillars.

And the rest of the car will be painted as is (I'm not removing any panels...)

you inspired me to do mine, does anybody have any idea as to how long this plasti dip would last before it starts peeling off?

I had read that the lifespan is suppose to be 3-5 years for outdoor use, Don't think anyone has had it on that long to verify that but most i've seen have held up really well. I would like to know if anyone has peeled their plasti dip off and had a residue left? Or if it is was only me for some reason. I want to plasti dip a vinyl top on my car but when I did my hood scoop after peeling it off it left a residue that won't come off.

i painted the stripe on my hood with one really heavy coat and took the tape off right away. i think it turned out great as does everyone who has complemented me on it. looks factory.

OP look into getting a fat cap for your spray can; might make the process a lil easier. less streaky too.

the dip should not peel by itself... you really need to get under an edge and deliberately start peeling away to get the stuff off

Plasti-Dip should NOT leave any type of residue after peeling it off (I can verify this myself) It leaves the surface under it exactly how it was left before the dip was sprayed. The only thing I can think of is that some pre existing wax was left on the hood scoop that reacted with the plasdi-dip creating such residue.

Hows the texture though? Ive noticed that the thicker, and wetter coats sprayed leave a completely different texture then building up the coats with light to medium coats.

What is this "fat cap" you speak of? Sounds interesting

Well I wasn't too worried about it since I have a new hood waiting to be put on, it just didn't make sense to me and I was wanting to put it on my roof but there is no way im doing that now. Car has never been waxed in the 6 years i've had it. I'm not really sure what caused it.

That question seems offly familiar... lol

a fat cap is just a replacement cap that you put on the can instead of the cap that comes on it form the store. it creates a bigger diameter of paint that sprays out. you can get em and any local art store i would imagine. they are pretty big in the graffiti world. lol people use them to fill their letters in.

this...

and it feels like a rubber coating. i have not done it with a bunch of light coats yet to feel the difference. is it smooth with a bunch of light coats?
