WW2 tribute car ideas

For many years I've wanted to turn a 1970 Plymouth Superbird into a WW2 bomber tribute. But as the years go on, I realize I really can't afford a Superbird, and a decent Charger to make into a clone is also stupidly overpriced. So I've gotten think that maybe I could scale down and use my '99 Cobra for a nice P51 Mustang tribute.

I've whipped out a few variations in Photoshop to help me visualize my ideas. If I do go through with it, the goal is to make the car look like it belongs in a lineup of P51's ready to kick some ass. My grandfather and great-grandfather's names will placed under the side windows, along with their retired ranks.

Version 1. This basic version is nothing more than a two-tone blue on silver, with a blue character line stripe, and the old WW2 era USAF logo.

Version 2. Body line rivets are added. This is the minimum of what I really want to do.

Version 3. Yellow/black checkerboard is added to the rear.

Version 4. A replica wing for a 1970 Plymouth Superbird is modded to fit the Mustang. Many will consider this blasphemy, but I like it.

I'm still not sure if I'll go through with any of these yet. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

I'm not really dead set on the wing or checkerboard. I do like the basic blue over silver though. I definitely want to see what you come up with.

well looks like i have to fix my PS again lol...i was thinking a more olive green like this would look better

I'd considered an olive drab version but didn't work on one. I made an olive drab Ford GT with yellow and black checkers on the rear in Need for Speed Pro Street and I loved it. I like your thinking here.

we did an olive drab scheme on my friends sn95 for a short time before he went matte black...he has black GT wheels and i've got to say it looked great...i'd post pics but my comp crashed a few months ago and took all my old pics with it.

First two look really good dude. I really really like military themed/styled cars. Unsure about the platform choice, but the style is legit:

GRM did a cool vinyl wrap on their project miata too:

yeah...just make sure if you go that color you use the matte finish and not gloss...i hate when someone glosses olive drab

something like this perhaps....i mean you could go all out since it's a tribute car and add in a pin-up girl on the side which would be cool

yeah...and in the centercaps i was thinking the same logo as the rear panel...it could be an awesome tribute if done right

1994 - 1998 FORD MUSTANG HIGH RISE SPOILER

I like the idea but would probably add the front teeth and eyes from the Korean war Flying Tigers.

Love both of those. The Miata is a little too shiny, but the design is quite nice.

I'm not against that spoiler, but it's too rounded for a New Edge Mustang. I like the flying tigers front teeth, but not sure how I'd incorporate it, I might have to Photoshop it to see what it might look like.
