Prevent rotors from rusting?

I bought new rotors I'm planning on spray painting them high temp silver. I also bought new pads so my plan is to spray paint the entire rotor leaving on my old pads and hit the brakes a few times driving down my street so it rubs off a perfect circle on the rotor face. Then I plan to put my new pads on and call it a day. Has any one ever done this? I'm just wondering if it will work well

I wouldn't paint the surface where your brakes actually contact the rotor. Even though you are using old pads, you don't know what it is doing to the rotor and it will probably leave a bunch of junk in the caliper. Just paint the non-used section of the rotor and call it a day.

i would tape of most of the contact surface of the rotor, but leave a small area of contact surface painted then do what you planned. then, they'red still be that perfect line you want, but with minimal paint to take off. say tape of all the contact surface except maybe 1/4-1/2 an inch. I've actually planned to do this as well once i get to touching up my rotors and calipers. With such a small amout of paint on the contact surface you should be fine. Good Luck!
