Debadging/ Decklids
I plan on getting a gloss black deck lid vinyl. What is the easiest way to get the trunk ford oval off? and shave the holes?
Also if anyone could post pictures of vinyl deck lids (99-04) with or without badges it would be greatly appreciated. Im still on the fence about whether or not to put the badges back on after the vinyl. |

I used a hairdryer and piece of fishing line. As for putting the badges back on, I wasn't going to either, but the decal I got from Rocky Mountain Graphics had the Ford oval cut out in it so I had to put that one back on. I didnt put the GT emblem back on though. Just put the decal right over top of the holes.

I just did this a few days ago, i had a hairdryer to heat up the area a bit and got dental floss and just removed it. there is going to be holes here, but what i did to cover it up was move the GT badge on the trunk in place of the ford badge.
not sure if this helps in any way but hopefully it does haha.

i just used fishing line...came right off...i then used nylon plugs to fill in the holes left behind so that when i do my rear panel there isn't a chance to puncture

Alright that seems simple enough. If i do end up rebadging what would I use to stick the GT badge back on?

Some 3M double-sided tape will do the trick

from my experience the 3m double sided tape was not sticky at all and not reassuring enough to use it, i got this 3m glue thing, it worked great.

Yeah the guy at Autozone recommended a 3M Plastic emblem adhesive.....the name makes it sound like it'll do the job haha. Hopefully i can get the vinyl on this weekend.

I did gloss black from Stangmods.com, the vinyl was pre cut to go over the ford emblem. I debadged the 3.8 with fishing wire and put it back on with some silicone.

I got the AM one for my birthday with no pre cut holes haha. Your rear looks great btw. I can't wait to get my vinyl on and then get tinted tails.

Hate to bump an older thread but I thought I'd chime in on this for future reference. The Ford oval can be easily removed by heating the emblem with a hair dryer or heat gun then using some fishing line to pull the emblem away. I personally just used a screwdriver to pry mine off after heating it because I painted my blackout panel on.
![]() If you don't want the emblem permanently gone, go with 6er's method. If you want the emblem gone for good (like I did) then break out the JB Weld. It takes a little work to get the holes filled but after I was done it was recommended to me to stick something in there like rolled up paper to help fill the holes quicker. JB Weld is some pretty strong stuff once it's dry, so get it as smooth as you can before it dries. ![]() If the JB Weld sort of sucks into the hole while it's drying, you can always build up a little extra primer in that area to fill the indent (just make sure it all gets sanded to the same level as the surrounding area before proceeding). ![]() ![]() For some reason the JB Weld likes to show through primer. Not a big deal, black paint takes care of that. ![]() And that was my finished product. Tail lights were also redone darker and glossy to match the blackout panel (it was originally satin and I had left the tail lights with a satin look to match it).
