First time claybar+polish
alright guys well i just finished washing my car, claybarring, and polishing.
I did not get to wax it because it is now too dark. Ingredients: Mr Clean Car wash kit with soap and deionized water filter, ICE liquid Claybar, ICE spray detailer, and ICE polish. Here's how my first time went.. -Rinsed -Washed of course -Rinsed Again and washed off normal water with deionized -Let it dry -First time using claybar.. VERY VERY frustrating. First of all, I did a couple windows and the roof and i then i realized i probably shouldn't just let it dry... so i had to rinse those 2 parts off. I had no idea how often to add the claybar liquid to the applicator. The applicator strap thing also broke, and i dropped the fucker several times.. forcing me to wash it off. This led to the applicator being really wet and the claybar being applied almost the same as soap. I ended up with white spots ALL OVER THE DAMN CAR. Anyway, after a rinse and a wash off of deionized water, and going over the car SEVERAL times with a MF towel to get off the white streaks i moved on to polish. -Polish was really nice, except the sun was starting to go down so it was kinda hard to see what spots i had already got and which ones i missed. I did it to near perfection and i seriously felt like i had carpal tunnel afterward. My wrist was aching like crazy. (I also put it on the windows... which i didn't read till after.. that i wasn't supposed to do). I wiped it all off with a MF towel again and after getting 2nd degree carpal tunnel, i took a look at my car. It was little light left.. not enough to put on the wax (just plain turtle wax).. aw well.. not a big deal i think. -Finished it with a deionized rinse to get the spots that i couldnt see real well. Before the last rinse the car looked BEAUTIFUL. After the whole thing with the clay bar, and a large amount of cussing, i was VERY pessimistic about the whole thing, but after seeing how the car looked after i was kind of relieved. Anyways, i will post pictures tmrw in the daylight. This took a total of 2 hours and 15 mins. Couple questions.. What does wax do exactly? Does wax just protect it? Is it ok for me to wax it tmrw morning? EDIT: PS i think i'm going to buy a normal claybar because the liquid one fuckin sucks.

Reset, I spent 5 hours clay barring my car this spring.
Wax provides a thin layer that helps protect the paint from UV rays, bird shit, etc. And yes it's okay for you to wax it in the morning. For clay bar, I would stick with Mothers or Meguiars products.

Sweet
![]() Another good thing for your paint is polish. It is possible to wax your car too often and build up a residue on it. Recently I started using this stuff: Ultra Finish It removes swirls, bugs, contaminants, scratches, oxidation, water spots, tar, old wax, overspray, tree sap, you name it. And it can be used on practically any surface, like chrome, plastic, fiberglass, hard rubber like your door mouldings, etc.
