10 steps on How To Paint a (car) Body Part...

I painted my rear bumper cover and I thought it would be helpful if I posted a HOW TO since there was several threads with ppl needing to paint a body panel etc.

1st
you will need/buy some good paint of your color choice, some clear coat spray, a couple of small paint brushes, 2 rolls of painters tape one small one big, steel wool, and good glass cleaner or rubbing alcohol.

2nd
take your steel wool and rub the area to be painted to rough up the area a little bit.

3rd
clean the area to be painted with window cleaner or rubbing alcohol and wipe away with a clean micro fiber towl.

4th
Tape off the area you wish to paint. be plentiful with the tape it is cheap insurance to protect from over spray. make sure to carefully place the tape around the area to be painted to make straight and neat lines. tape over any part you do not wish to be painted with in a 1-2 foot radius.

5th
after taping everything off it is now time to paint. it is a good idea to take your micro fiber towl and wipe away any dust that might of got on the body while you where taping. use the color or your choice. spray in even straight sweeping motions. only apply a smal amount over the area and let dry for 4-8min to prevent dripping. repete intill area is fully painted to the desired proportion.

6th
Let the paint dry for a good 15-20min. then after the paint is dry apply the clear coat to protect your work. apply the same way as the paint. let dry 5 min in between sprays. once you are done let dry for 10min.

7th
after clear coat dries its time to take the tape off. This step is oddly fun

8th
there will be little imperfections from where the edge of the tape was. not a big deal. take te spray paint, spray some into the cap of the paint and take your paint brush and touch up the edges. be careful not to paint more than needed. this can be hard for people with unsteady hands. just take your time with this step.

9th
let the paint you touched up to dry for about 10min and spray a light coat of clear over the toughed up area. and let dry

10th
step back and look at the work you did yourself and bask in its beauty.
