Paint Job

i just got a quote from a body shop. i asked for an estimate for them to paint just the fender over the right front wheel. they quoted it at 1400. they said it was so expensive cuz they had to blend the door and hood paint in order to ensure a perfect match. it seems kinda ridiculous to me but i need your opinions. Does this seem reasonable?

I think its a little high but dont forget that labor is the biggest part of that. I would get at least two other quotes and compare.

well i bought the car used. and it had an accident on the right fender. they replaced it and had it painted with factory paint but the paint is like a shade or two off. i figured i would just get it repainted. i'm gonna look around for a better deal. they wouldnt even repaint my saleen front bumper because its not stock.

my ford dealer referred me to this place which is the palce they use for all their body work.

for that price, you'd be better off just painting the whole car...

That is WAY overpriced man! Since there is no bodywork to be done on it and its just paint time it should be around 300-450 to get it done with the blending which really is the best way to do it.

I don't really get the whole "blending" thing...?

When I got my front bumper cover repainted, the guy just matched it up with these color pallet things, matches absolutely perfectly, looks flawless.

butt matching(when you paint a panel with other panels buttiing up to it and not blending on them) is a hit or miss thing some times. Alot of the time it may match perfectly, but sometimes it is off.

Like for example say you have a white car but yours was one of the first white cars off the assembly line after aome blue cars. Now they don't completly clean the lines out before every color change so there will be a slight varience to it towards the blue side as compared to the real white.

That is where the varience chips come in (the pallet things). The manufactures know this and there is usually two or more variences(different shades of the same color ie:a bluer white, red white, a white with a little black in it, etc.) for every factory color but sometimes it still isn't just right.

So that is why you blend on adjecant panels so you know for sure it will match the first time and you don't have to repaint it.

Thats way to much for that. I just got a quote this morning from the local ford dealership, and I am getting some chips on the roof, hood, and front bumper, and a scratch on my fender, both GT Side Scoops painted, my whole hood repainted, and the license plate holes filled in and painted for $887.00.
