If your out of wax then go buy another wax, not a polishing compound or a rubbing compound lol. There completely different things, wax protects your cars finish and helps it to shine where rubbing compound and polishing compounds are abrasives used for removing minor scratches and surface imperfections (Rubbing compound being the more aggressive of the two).

polishing compound is a definite good idea before a wax. I clay barred, rubbing compounded, polished, and waxed about 3 weeks ago. Cost 20 for clay bar kit, 3 dollars for rubbing, 3 for polish, 20 for wax, 3 dollars for 3 micro fiber cloths and 2 bucks for 2 applicator pads plus the one that came with the wax. So if you dont want to spend alot I'd say polish and wax for 29 bucks isn't bad. I used mequiars gold class wax btw. If you do rubbing compound do NOT use a circular motion, just a back and forth sweeping motion.
