Mustang cutout
I finally got the motivation to spend the day on a cutout for behind the rear seats...for never having carpeted anything in my life, I think I did a decent job..
The pictures are much smaller in photobucket, I'm not quite sure why they are posting so large...sorry for that. ![]() ![]()

Question,
I want to add some led's/cathodes in the trunk to make it look all snazzy...is there any strategic way of placing the light to really make the plexi glass glow? Thanks

i think you just put it right on the edge of the plexi. however with just clear plexi it wont glow very much. if you have it etched then whats etched will glow alot more then the clear. |

A lucrative business here. lol. I was thinking of the same idea Nate. I know I've seen at least a green pony somewhere on some board. I believe it was just a piece of plexi with no etching. Was hoping to get the same effect. Guess I will have to play around with it.
It was a PITA to make. But if you have the skills/tools...its not too bad. Just reallllly time consuming. I just traced out an outline of the pony on the board. Then I had to determine where to cut slots/shave down the sides. Alot of running back & forth between the car & the jigsaw. I then layed down one side of the carpet and carefully cut out the outline & glued the edges behind the board. Secured the plexi to that back side & covered the back side with carpet as well in the same manner. I'm not gonna lie...it's taking a WHILE for glue/carpet scent to disappear. lol. I've had to febreeze it a few times. Well thats that. I'm exhausted, so excuse me for any spelling mistakes. Oh, btw...don't close your seats unless you really have to! I'm not sure if my carpet was extra thick, or the plexi glass added some depth. But either way, it's a PAIN to unlock the seat if I close it

That's really cool. All the back seat deletes that I have seen have been carpet. Yours looks really clean. Too bad I can't really see the sub box from any angle or else the plexi glass would have been a nice touch.

The job looks sweet , and yes, LEDs will just make it POP. Try pointing them to the edge of the plexi to give a soft light effect. Or use 120 grit sandpaper on a DA sander or orbital sander to give a "frosted" look then drill holes the size of the leds to give a glowing look. Either way, a little experimentation witth scrap plexi will give you an idea of what you can do.

I honestly don't remember what thickness it was. It wasn't wood either. I'd call it more of a composite material...brown in color, full of holes. lol. It flexed a decent amount until I added the plexi. The material was no thicker than 1/4
The size of the slots I would have to cut out were rather significant in size. I would say 5x7 inches. Figured it would look sloppy/silly. I never thought of drilling holes into the plexi...that would work really well. Only bad part is I would have to rip the carpet off the back of the cutout in order to access the plexi & hide the wires. Might not be pretty. But thanks on the compliment, and also the recommendation!
