How to paint flat black?

I am going to paint my hood, roof and trunk flat black on my silver mustang.

I was wondering how to paint it myself.

prep it by sanding from higher to lower grit paper (not sure the grit its been a while) im assuming you have a spray gun, after its sanded you want to clean it VERY well with a tac rag and some paint cleaner. throw a few coats of primer on and let it dry. lightly sand the primer clean and hit it with your paint. you said flat black so im assuming your not clearing?

yeah, i have a grimmer schmidt v8 air compressor and a spray gun.....

What kind of painnt do i use?

I know PPG has a real nice dark flat black. My neighbor used it on his old 32 Ford hotrod.

I use base coat clear coat,,,after preping spray your base which would be black ,,then you need to add flatter in your clear.that will give it flat look..and it will last longer...just spraying on flat black it will fade out

go to auto paint store ,tell them you want some flat er for clear...

I had 3qts of silver mixed last night to paint the whole car. I will ask them about the flat black today.....

Do yourself a favor and try a scrap panel first. Flat black is hands down the hardest color to shoot and make it look good. If you don't have any scrap laying around (large pieces) go to a junk yard and get one (a fender or hood). The flat black will show off any heavy or light spots in the spray pattern. But any "older" Hot Rodder will tell you the "cool" factor goes up by a factor of 10 when done properly!
