Help me keep my rims please...

I have stock 17" Cobra rims on my GT, and I'm putting the Eibach pro-kit on in the near future. Basically I don't want my rear tires to look "tucked in" when it's lowered. I would like to keep my current rims at the same time. How is the best way to do this? Can I have the rims widened professionally somehow? I realize the best option would be to get wider rims and tires, but I'd really like to keep the rims I have since there is nothing wrong with them and they look great. I just don't want to spend money needlessly.

Thanks

Thats true. I read about most people thinking they aren't too reliable in the long run however. Also, how big a spacer will be needed without rubbing anything?

I ran a 1.25 inch on my 01 GT
they are fine.. I just wouldn't use them on a drag strip.

That's what I'm looking for. And are those stock tires as well, or bigger? Too much shadow to see anything.

I know what you mean, my Z28 is the same way... I'm tryin to keep the GT nice and stockish, with a little style, but it's tough lol. Anyways I have stock Cobra rims like I said, so I'm assuming 8.5-9" wide, probably going to try and keep the 245's if possible to avoid needing to tune anything. And if your 275's fit, the 245's will have room to spare.

I have 275's on the Z with 9.5" rims, maybe I could upgrade a little to maybe a 255 or 265 and just get a cheapo handheld tuner? Safety's the major issue though, I don't want to come flying around a bend with tires too wide for the rim, or too much spacer

the more tire you have the better you grip man.. lol you think stangs that autocross use thin tires?

a 275 is perfect for a 9 inch wheel

you could always buy an xcal or speedcal as well.

Yeah I know, I was just always under the impression that you don't want to get too wide a tire for your rim. When I was researching for the Z28's tires, I kept reading that 275's are about the max that you want on a stock rim, but I THINK they were 8.5's I could be wrong, it's been a couple years. So lets assume I have the 8.5" rims worst case... whats the widest tire I want on one of those?

Wow, I guess I don't need to be as picky as I thought AFA tire width. Thanks a lot for the quick help man. I basically just finished the "research" part of my appearance quest in one night lol, now I just gotta get the money and the parts...

I'm in north Jersey.

The 245's I have now have great tread still, so I'm gonna wear them out before getting bigger ones, but I'm only in PA so if I find myself heading to north NJ anytime I'll definately let you know... free is free lol

You wouldn't happen to have an aftermarket exhaust would you? I'm in the market for that as well and as of now I'm lookin at spending about $330 on a 2.5" MAC catback.
