Cannot match paint on new bumper!! any ideas?

Ok, my car was origoinally a 99' V6 35th anniversary edition and it has never been repainted. the factory door sticker says paint code BZ. i tell the shop this, the paint is mixed and my new cobra r urethane front bumper is painted! however it doesn't match.. my car seems to have more orange in it, while the new bumper seems to be a blank banana like yellow and although its not a HUGE difference it pisses me off. a friend told me that there are 4 different shades of the BZ "chrome yellow" color, in differnt parts of the country, is this true?? if anyone knows anything I could do please let me know asap because I want to get this done right! if i bring it into a cerrtain shop that will computer match the color for me would that benefit me? or would they just give me the BZ paint tag? any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

tell the fuckers at the paint place to redo it...

you could have also gone to your local ford dealer for the paint and siad you were gonna paint it at home then gone to your paint place and givin them the factory colour... maybe... that might be to much work

I_CTCHR95 Newbie Join Date: Nov 2006 Posts: 5	Your friend is right. The paint color is different depending on where the car orginated from. You will find this in new cars as well. Say you put a NY car up against a Cali car, the color will be different. So basically if you go to a dealer and pick out a new car and order the exact one you want the color could be different than the cars on the lot that are said to be the same color. Ford should have been able to tell by reading the numbers on your door the exact color that you needed.

singe Regular Join Date: Feb 2007 Posts: 117	I had a buddy check my vin to get the EXACT paint code. Turns out there was 7 different variations of silver. See if you cant ask someone at a dealership to get you the exact paint match on your car.

you should be able to take the car to any automotive dealer (a good one anyway) and you can give them say your gas tank lid and they should have a device that can tell the exact paint mixture. ive used that numerous times when matching paints... expecially custom colors

i wouldn't even attempt to paint my car at home i have that retarded tri color laser red (E9) they don't even sell touch up for it cuz the color isnt a true color its a combination of 3 that has to applied in proportion and in a certain sequence.

yup they can do what they call "blending" basicaly it makes the new paint look as shitty as the old paint lol

"blending" the paint isnt really aging it... lets say you have new front fenders, hood, and bumper. the shop will sand the clear coat off the doors, and scuff up the front half of the doors. then they will use the new paint and paint the front end completely while fading the paint to match the old on the doors... kinda like mixing the old thats already on it and lightly spraying the new only on the scuffed up half of the doors. then they will shoot clear coat on all the parts that were painted and there is your "blended" paint job

Never heard of that method. When my father crash his '65 Mustang convertible, he waxed that car so much the garage said it was no longer the same as the original color it was when he bought it. All they did was take the original color and mix it until they matched. Sounds like your garage just painted it the factory color and called it a day.

its done that way to if they cant make it perfect so they fade to make it blend in......the paint I had was good enough not to even have to do that and the paint it perfect..he said he would just mix the paint in a way to match it which my paint is fine neways but did a good job
