I like the look and if they have a nasty cam it's even better. Black coupes are evil looking. All of my non mustang drag race buds tell me that the coupes have a real intimidating look to them.

If anyone does flat black and they want it to stay looking good i would suggest having it proffesionally done with flat clear.

PPG came out with a new flattening agent and it makes the likelyhood of tigerstriping not as great. Its still there just not as prevelant.

You can control the "flatness" of the clear by using more or less of the agent.

For flat clear, someone that can spray a Kandy needs to spray it because its almost like spraying Kandy blindfolded, because any variance of overlap and gun control is where you get your stripping from. But you wont notice anything until it completly dries, because it sprays on wet looking like normal clearcoat, but turns flat as it dries. So any missoverlap will be a flatter or less flat stripe.

That is why most of the flat black you see is just primer, because it doesnt stripe like flat clear does. But it wont hold up as good because primer is not desinged to be a topcoat.

I painted a motorcycle using it this summer and it came out great, it also had flat black and silver.

And ive often thought about spraying my car flat black as well.

old school

40 yrs ago we painted cars with flat black primer. Then we would wet sand it with 400 grit. After that, the car would sparkel with red, and green highlights as if had glitter.

If you add a small amount of laundry soap to the water bucket when you wet sand, it makes the job go real easy.

PPG makes an epoxy primer/sealer called DP, it's the black you are looking for.
the finish is a low-gloss matte black, but not flat, and it's epoxy so it's durable as nails..i've done several cars with this product, it really looks good, no spray lines if applied correctly.
i like the matte black look if the body is straight and no spray lines, i think it gives a car the "all business" look...just make sure the body is cherry first (a lot of bodymen will slack if they know it's not going gloss), and spray the DP just like you would paint (wet glossy coats, it will dull down as it dries).
