anyone taken off racing stipes before?
Hey guys I have some black racing stripes on my yellow stang and they are pealing and need to be redone. I have a friend who is a very good painter. he painted his stang and it looks amazing, and he is going to just paint my stripes on so I dont have to deal with these decal stripes again. Anyway, my question for you guys is when you take the stripes off is it going to tear at my paint? Will it look shitty to where I would have to put new stripes on where the old ones are? The reason why I ask is because I am wanting to move my stripes in closer together towards the center. but if I cant then I think I might just make one big fat stripe down the middle. I'm not sure. Opinions?

Dont take this the wrong way but if your friend is a very good painter he should have had an answer on this for you. Like I said im not trying to be mean but its just something to think about before you have someone messing with your car.
1. To get the stripes off if theyre a soft material like what pinstripe is made out of an eraser wheel will take them right off. 2. If theyre that hard vinyl stuff then try a heat gun and pulling it off as the adhesive heats up then cleaning the sticky stuff off with an eraser wheel and/or lacquer thinner. 3. For pulling off your paint not likely if its oem/factory paint and you do it correctly. 4. As for looking bad the area where your stripe was is going to have more shine and look nicer than the rest of the paint. The stripe acts like a sunscreen to the area where it is. The paint under the stripe hasnt faded due to sun where the rest of the car has. Once again if the guy is as good as you said, the new stripes are in the same panel(s) as the old ones such as the decklid, roof, and hood, he is going to clear over the whole panel the stripe will be on vs burn-in and the car is newer im willing to bet he could make it work. Heat gun and lighter fluid to clean the goop the vynil leaves behind.
be veeery carefurl wirth the heat gun. if you leave it on one spot to long you'll soften/crack/peel the paint. |
