I have a problem..

So i got pulled over the other day for going 15 over the speed limit. That wasnt to bad but my problem was the cop gave me a warning for my windows being to tinted. What the hell should I do? I was just going to keep them and just pay off the tickets every time i get pulled over again for it, but I'm going to get on court supervision for my speeding ticket, therefore I cannont get ANY other tickets, such as a window tinting ticket. So I have to get rid of the tinted window. I still want a tint, just not as heavy. Is there any way to take my existing window tint and make it lighter? Or do I have to strip it off and get a new one put on? Also, is this something i can do on my own or will I have to take this to a shop or something. I didn't put the window tinting on my car, it was already there when I bought it from the previous owner. Hope you guys can help, I'm clueless. Thanks

I have very illegal tint on my car and have gotten 3 tickets since i bought it. My windows are usually down and I;m in FL so I don't get hassled too much.

You'll have to take it somewhere to have it redone...

I dont really know a whole lot about tinting, but im pretty sure its just a film that goes over the window right? or at least thats what mine looks like. It deffinatly wasn't the best done because you can see at the very tip of my windows were it was put on and what the original stock window/glass or whatever looked like. so i didn't know if there was a way to just take it off. hell i dont know what im talking about.

any idea of a price on how much this is going to cost?

remove it yourself.. it's free and simple.
all you need is a razor blade and a spray bottle of soapy water.

ya that is what i was going to do but im on court supervision for my ticket and if they get me again then both tickets would go on my record. and sense im under 21 if i get two tickets within 12 months they can suspend my license for up to 6 months. so i cant be getting any more tickets for this tinted window stuff. and those cops are gonna be running my plates everytime they pull up behind me. they would just love to stop a teen driving a yellow stang

Like HMUSN said do it yourself. I don't think you could mess up taking it off. You can get precut tint on Ebay cheap if you want to try tinting it yourself.

If you do it yourself make sure to use plenty of lube (water) & a new razor blade or 3. You dont want to scratch the glass.

Like was previously said, just drive with the windows down. I'm in Texas so it's easy to do. Not so much in Illinois I assume.

Can't roll down the windshield...and I guess if you're on supervision for the speeder you will have no choice even tho this is not a moving violation.

Yeah you can strip it yourself but if you strip the back glass be careful of the defroster lines. Youll need to pull the tint off and then spray the glass with soapy water and clean all the glue with some white scotch brite or your conna scrape the lines and your defroster wont work. And by all means if you do not have a steady hand do not think about scraping the glue with a razor blade.

If you wan to do it your self you could do it with enough practice just beware the back glass is a bitch cause it has to be heat shrinked before applied or it will NEVER go on right.

A trick on door glasses like ours with no frames is to cut the film a little tall, so the tint sticks above the window with it rolled all the way up, and then comae back with a (clean and not aggressive) flat file and file the excess tint off from the top of the glass. It makes a nice beveled edge so there is almost no chance of the tint somehow getting pulled up.
