HELP! need to UN-TINT taillights

So the goddamn cops got me AGAIN for my tinted taillights. I really need to un-tint them. Unfortunately, the guy I bought the car from painted on the tint (a stupid thing to do to the rare 99/01 Cobra lenses). None of the aftermarket ones work with the 99/01's because of the seperate amber turn signal, and new ones from ford are over 300 bucks each
Does anyone know if it is possible to sand/polish the lenses to get the paint off without damaging them? Maybe a body shop would know? I'm sick of getting pulled over for this crap and I need to have the car inspected in a few weeks.
THANKS!

good luck on that. the only thing i can advise is starting off with 800 grit wet sanding, just get the toplayer off, go to 1000 to take off a little more, then 2000 for more, and finer than 2000 if you can get it. you will need a buffer and some really good plastic polish as well.

x2. it going to me a LOT of hand sanding depending on how thick he put it on. I say screw it and drop the money on some new ones. then sell your on ebay.

Sand paper will work and it will be easier than you think it will be. After you sand them it would be best to add a clear coat.

just be careful what you use if you use a remover. you always run the risk of fogging the lens if you use the wrong thing.

very true. try a small spot first and dont let it sit on lens too long. they will fog. Keep warm soap water handy and wipe and wash in steps. I just think it will be easier to buff out a fog with some wax rather than do any sanding.
