Is there a way to widen stock wheels?

I've been thinking about this for a while and I'm just wondering if it can be done.

I have many sets of split 5 spoke 96 gt style rims and i want to know if theres a place or somebody who professionally cuts the wheels and makes them wider.

i love the style but i wish they weren't 17x8's all around.

thanks, and any input is appreciated.

Anything can be done if ya have enough money. I don't know for sure if they are weldable. My guess is that they are. They would have to be cut in two, a strip welded in and then ground smooth, Warping is a danger as well as getting them out of true and they might have trouble being balanced. It's not worth it imho.

why dont you just sell them and buy wider? i think cutting and welding would make them weak.

because i already have a set of cobra wheels that are 10.5 in rear and a set of black fr500's that are 10.5 in the rear.

i just think it would look good with a 315 35 17 wrapped around them, but now that i think about it you would run into problems with the offset too.

man this could get costly quick.

yeah. all those things were my concerns to and i figured it wouldn't be worth it in the long run. even if they were cut then added more to the rim, they still might be not true and might break.

but i just had to ask and see if there was an easier way.
