Smoked Tail/Headlight covers in NC

i talked to a friend and he said you could have them on, so i ordered them for both tail and headlights. but i checked online and found that they are illegal in most states. the nc dmv says tail lights must be red, but some other forum sites said you can have them as long as you have red reflectors on the back of the car. anyone know the legality of them on the headlights?

you should be fine. the best way to find out is talk with your local law enforcement agency.

i think a cop should have better things to do than to give tickets to a parked car with dark taillights. but where i live, everyone has them and i never hear anything about it, so you should be fine.

just buy it and who cares what the cops say. they speed
But seriously most places wont pull you over for that kinda stuff, just make sure your lights work and others can see and youll be good. did you order blackout or smoked? I bought the tint from stangmods and i put the headlight tint on and it was ridiculously too dark for me. That was blackout too, but i could easily have boughten hid's but didnt have the money. Youll be fine i think

ya, im not too worried about parking, dont really go too many places where cops patrol the parking lot, but just want to make sure just in case i have to go to a cop infested parking lot. so as long as the cop can see red light coming through he shouldnt pull me over, unless hes a prick? and they dont care about smoked headlights unless it obstructs view? so getting brighter bulbs will be fine?

really worried about this cuz i dont pay insurance on my car (parents still do it) and so i told them they were street legal cuz my friend said that and hes usually right about that stuff. if i were to get a ticket though they would be pissed.

i bought the ones from americanmuscle.com that say smoked. i can see red through the tail lights of customer pics, but the headlights look really dark. but the cops care more about the tail lights than the headlights it seems.

all rite, cool. i do agree that cops shouldnt waste their time with smoked lights, especially with me since most of my driving is daytime driving so i dont need the lights in most conditions.

i drove with the blackout headlights on for a couple days, and mind you on base as well, where cops are more of a dick than anywhere else, and they never stopped me, and i know they saw because you can hear me coming, im very noticeable

Don't worry about it. I'm waiting to get rearended and end up being at fault because of my lights though. I'm always looking in my rearview lol.

they should look for your third brake light though, so i dont see how thats a problem. cops just always pick on people with nice cars.

if you can get away with blackouts on base, smoked should be fine on public streets. i did run into a guy that has them on his strip car (street-legal). he said i have less than a 1% of getting pulled and ill be safe during the day as long as i keep my lights on. so i think with the brighter bulbs up front, and possibly some in the back, ill be fine.
