DIY Angel Eyes

Has anyone on here got any angel eyes they've made and put on there headlights with pics? I've got a 2000 mustang and I did a search and could only find the ones you buy.

I've already taken the headlight housring apart and have painted the bezel black and taken out the amber plastic piece but I figure while I've got them apart might as well try it out. So I'm thinking either make the typical angel eyes (circles) or outline the inside to sort of give it an eyebrow type look inside the housing.

i would suggest retro fitting some. Find something off ebay, put them into your housing and then plastic weld them in, paint it all black and then wire it accordingly.

already took some pics while doing the painting part but I haven't decided if I should do only one halo or two (one for hi/lo, and one for turnsignal) I think it would look better with two but I can't find anymore of those damn blind things that are clear and solid. Only one's I've found are hollow so it looks like I'll be doing only the hi/lo. Oh and the pics kind of suck b/c they are taken with my phone but they should suffice.

Why retrofit some if I can make them for way cheaper? That's actually the main reason I'm wanting to make my own b/c the lights from AM are awkward looking and make the front look to busy. IMO just doesn't fit.

I know pics help Venge and they will be up as soon as I finish. It was a major PITA trying to find another clear rod suitable for use. But I did manage to find one in my dorm room. and seeing as how my roommates an assclown I just went ahead and took it off the blinds.

I've got class most of the day. It was ridiculous trying to solder them to the wiring harness last night, it was so cold the solder would melt into little balls and freeze. I'll post pics tonight when I get my camera charged, and snap some night pics. I have them wired to the turn signal's power source (not the relay wire so they don't blink). I plan on getting some new housings and really looking into getting some ccfl rings made so they will be super bright and have some sort of interface to control the lights so I can make them blink with the turn signals as well as being on with the running lights. IDK just a thought.

So... I won't bore you with a bunch of crappy phone pics. Due to my camera breaking I was stuck with the crappy camera on my phone. Here's a few decent pics.
Ok so I heated the housing at 275 *F for 10-15 minutes, removed the lens from the housing, then removed the chrome looking bezel by unscrewing the 2 hex screws on the back of the slender side of the housing and wiggled it out. Then I just pulled on the little amber turn signal lens and it popped right off. And that's if for disassembly. Then I painted the bezel black.

Now to make the halos which I unforntunately do not have pics of, sry... However this site has all the info you need to make the halos Creating Custom Angel Eyes (I used this site)
angel eyes (But this one looks a lil better I think... wish I would've seen it before the project)

Here's a pic of the halo installed powered off

Now One Powered on @ night for obious reasons

Now another night pic showing both sides

I will be redoing this in the future as soon as I get a job again and get some money, so I can buy a few more pairs of headlights and mess around with them and go all out. I'm planning on retrofitting some S2000 projectors then getting some halos custom made by a ccfl shop if I can find ones I like. Then it's on to the tail lights.

well given the amount of projects around the room prolly a 3-4hrs, that's with trying to solder in below freezing temps and a lot of experimenting. Although I came to this conclusion after finishing the project if you sand the outside of the ring on every side it glows brighter due to the texture it refracts the light and keeps it from escaping the tube.

it definitely didn't come out the way I wanted it to but hell it works great for now. But I was missing almost all my electronics equipment hence why the cheap soldering iron didn't work. Also the connections aren't great so I'll have to go back when it's warmer and refigure all my connections and use better supplies instead of whatever I could find at the time.
