xcal tuning newbie
Hi to all
l have a 2006 auto GT with authorized dealer fitted 475 saleen SC package incl 39lb injectors, 3.4" pulley, flowmaster axlebacks.....and thats it but the car also came with an xcal tuner which l am told had a summer and winter tune (what ever that might be in terms of running spec)..... Im assuming the cars brain has been adjusted for the SC As lm not the worlds best with anything modern tuner techie (lm old school UK 60s sports cars SU, strombergs ....do anything on a car with my ears, nose, a strobe light, screwdriver, and a pair of pliers) So can someone tell me what ive got to do with this xcal.....lve read the instructions....fine But lm really looking to understand the whole modern tuning subject properly...what it is lm doing.....why lm doing it.....what lm reading and adjusting and why...why i would want alternative tunes....using my lap top in the process and understanding what lm reading....what the downloads from VMP do.....what can VMP do for me re new custom tunes.....installing them......l really want to understand this subject....l need modern tuning 101 in a book or download......HELP particularly neccessary as me and car are in UK.....and knowledge is scarce or distant re mustang tuning Last edited by xxxscimitarxxx : June 22nd, 2008 at 04:56 AM. |

Hi, if you are interested in tuning the vehicle yourself and reading about it, check out this link to the sct pro-racer software:
VMP Tuning - Buy Ford SCT & GM Custom Handheld Flash Tuners Performance Economy Towing: SCT Pro-Racer Software There are some differences that need to be taken into account when calibrating overseas vehicles. For example, our "premium fuel" over here is 91-93 octane (RON+MON/2 method), in many parts of europe they often use the higher of the two methods, so you end up with 95 being mid grade, and 98-99 being premium. Mid grade is not nearly enough for a supercharged car with high compression, like yours, or like any modified Mustang. You need to run the good stuff, 98 or higher, which I'm told is expensive over there. The tune also needs to take into account any ethanol content in the fuel, often called E5 or E10 for 5% or 10% ethanol. Ethanol leans the car out, so this should be take into account in the tune. A properly made done does not require a winter and summer version.

Thanks Justin
I run the 98 stuff to be sure.....the full racer software may be a little too much for me to comprehend or use as l dont plan on tuning many cars or constantly tinkering ....but given that lve got the xacl2 device that came with the car and assuming its got a tune of some sort in it already.....can you sell me an email tune to optimise on my set up as stated.....and what ever other parameters you may need.....
