How Many GT500KR’s Will Shelby Deliver?

Carroll Shelby In A 2007 GT500Any interview or story that you read about Carroll Shelby will always leave you with the impression that he is a decent guy that you could, sometime in the future, relate to. Like most well liked people you would never want to do anything that would get on their bad side. With that being said many people are wondering what happened with the GT500KR and where the mis-understanding came in.

According to the official press release by Ford Motor Company, only about 1,000 of these top of the market, 510-hp Mustangs will be built. Apparently Ford spoke too soon. In a recent interview, Shelby stated that he had not agreed to build that many units for the GT500KR line…

“We haven’t even established numbers, somebody said 1,000, I haven’t signed off on that.” Amy Boylan (President of Shelby Automobiles, Inc.)  added, “That’s exactly right.”

Even though Shelby leaves us wondering, he did offer a bit of good news. He plans to keep building more Shelby inspired Mustangs long after the GT500KR is finished. In true Shelby manner he was quoted saying, “Even after I go horizontal, Amy (Boylan, President of Shelby Automobiles, Inc.) is still gonna be building Shelbys.” Rumor has it that a 600 horsepower “Super” GT500 may be in the works…
