More On The 2007 Saleen/Parnelli Jones Mustang

2007 Saleen/Parnelli Jones Mustang ThumbnailIf there’s one Mustang worth looking forward to, it would have to be the 2007 Saleen/Parnelli Jones Limited Edition. We were first given a small glimpse of this long awaited vehicle at the New York Auto Show last year. This limited edition pony was given a retro style to it, which we can easily see when we look at the orange paint, black stripes, and the chrome around the grille and rear lights.

We are confident that the vehicle is equipped with the Boss 302 engine, which is the most important feature on this car. It may not have the word ‘Boss’ written next to the 302, but we now for a fact that it is indeed the right engine. And you can certainly tell so when you slip behind the wheel and crank this baby up. The vehicle revs much more then you would have expected and grabs the attention of everyone around you. The powerband is improved in the fact that it is easy to use and is very smooth.

As with everything that we love there is always something that won’t be exactly perfect. In this case it would be the transmission. Saleen decided to go with the standard Ford 5-speed manual with the PJ billet short-throw shifter, which proves to be careless most of the time. Yet, you can always look for a great driving experience thanks to the traction control, which is standard as well, but also very helpful.

One would think that the unusual retro styling that went in to make this vehicle would turn people away, but in fact it has the opposite effect on just about everybody. The fact that the vehicle look like the Trans-Am racer from the 1970’s seems to attract the attention of the men, who love to race it and feel like they are back in the ‘old school’ racing cars of the past. While the women seemed to be drawn to it for no particular reason. The tail of the vehicle seemed to be admired the most. What with the details that were put into the louver and the spoiler who couldn’t halp but love it.

Even though everyone is impressed with the detailing of the outside styling of the vehicle that isn’t what makes this Parnelli vehicle a must-have. Not even the ‘Boss’ 302 wonderful sounding engine could make this vehicle complete. No, the one thing that make this vehicle absolutely perfect is the suspension. This limited edition mustang is still being built with the solid-beam rear axle, yet there is a twist to it.

There are two saleen-devolped watts links that have been added as a bonus. They were placed instead of the stock panhard rods. Having this perk allows the car to use the PJ-specific RaceCraft suspension peices, which makes these peices a thinker anti-roll bar and stiffer shocks all around.
