The New York Auto Show was the pedestal from which Saleen announced yet another project it has been working on. Racing legend Dan Gurney was the focus of the new signature edition Mustang - which will be released in late April - bearing a resemblance to his 1969 Trans Am series Mustang.

Saleen CEO Paul Wilbur described it as “amazing” that just 2 years after standing on stage with Parnelli Jones, they have joined up with long time rival, and friend, Dan Gurney to produce 300 limited edition Mustangs for the public. This particular Saleen will be equipped with a supercharged 4.6L V8 producing 465 horsepower, along with Saleen’s racecraft suspension. Exterior accessories and the vintage coloration added to the S197 platform put a modernized twist to the classic that won so many hearts.

On the exterior, the Mustang sports a Gurney Edition body kit, complete with “duck bill” rear spoiler, chin spoiler and stinger type hood. All perfectly harmonized with the paint scheme and carefully placed decals -including the Gurney Eagle insignia reminiscent of the classic.

Although Saleen was not prepared to make a statement, Saleen General Manager Marques McCammon did say that this latest edition was “likely the best all around 281 supercharged car that Saleen has ever built.” Combine that with the specially tuned racecraft suspension, Generation-II Watts-Link rear end, and the Pirelli Corsa tires – a suspension combination never before featured on a Saleen vehicle – and you have yourself a lightning fast, corner-hugging monster.

The exterior of the car is not the only area to get a face-lift. The interior has also been revamped to include the Gurney Eagle emblem on the steering wheel and head rests of the two-tone seats featuring either red or blue AlcantaraTM inserts.

To honor Dan Gurney’s All American racing persona, Saleen will produce 100 vehicles in each of 3 colors. Torch Red, Performance White and Vista Blue, with contrasting color graphics and interiors, and a set of “#2″ roundels to complete the Dan Gurney experience. With only 300 being made, this will definitely be a must-have amongst collectors.

Mustang enthusiasts nationwide will have something else to look forward to in 2008 as Team Shinoda recently unveiled their plans for a new Boss Mustang. With a variety of packages being offered, the Boss will be sure to have something for any mustang lover regardless of their budget.

The 2008 Boss Shinoda Legacy package has been geared towards those who worry about breaking the bank or those who would like to do their own modifications as their budget and time allow. It comes with the Shinoda Spoiler, Graphics pack (Vibe or Hockey Stick style), engine cover, floormats, and pedal covers. The Legacy package can be added to a V6 or GT (coupe or convertible) platforms – the convertible also coming equipped with a light bar.

The Level I Boss Shinoda adds a bit power to the elegance. Producing nearly 350 hp and upgrading the suspension, the Level I could easily be a daily driver, or something to break out over the weekend for those days where all you want to do is drive.

Ford racing gets involved for the Level II-S, Level II-FR and Level II-T packages. Powered by the Vortech Supercharger, the Level II-S and II-FR will bring a smile to anyone’s face as they see competition shrinking in their rear-view, while the Level II-T does the same while substituting the Supercharger with a Turbocharger. With the addition of the BCS Level II suspension (on the Level II-S and II-T) and the Ford Racing Handling Pack and BCS Control arms and Panhard bar on the Level II-FR, It’s still a very practical car around town.

Team Shinoda and Ford Racing pulled out all the stops when they designed the Level III. They wanted something to stand above the rest, and successfully created the most powerful production mustang available. The Level III Boss Shinoda has been upgraded further to the BCS Level Three Suspension to keep you in control of the asphalt-melting 750 hp it produces. The Level III was designed for those who have the desire – and means – to attain the right to say “What Z06?”.

It would be almost impossible for Team Shinoda to bring this line of specialty Mustangs back without the addition of the ever-popular Boss 429. It arrives on the scene with a naturally aspirated 429 hp 3-valve aluminum engine, and the BCS Level Three Suspension pack. This beloved masterpiece returns displaying no graphics or decals, and relies not on the flash of cosmetic extras to turn heads, but solely on it’s unadulterated power.

There’s 2 ways to go about ordering your own 2008 Boss Shinoda. You can go through authorized dealers (there’s a list of them here) or you can arrange your order through Team Shinoda who will have your custom order built and sent to a dealership near you. You can discuss the new BOSS in our forum.

Jeff White of Jerry Ford Sales in Edson, Alberta, Canada recently joined the forums and posted a few pictures in our gallery of their take on what should (or could, or would) have been. A retro spin where ROUSH meets Cervini and becomes a Mach 1… well, sort of.

The self-proclaimed “car-nuts” up there (aren’t all Canadians nuts?) may be stuck in -19 degree snowy weather right now but that’s not stopping them from tricking out Modded Mustangs on a regular basis, all of which retain the full factory warranty. “When the Mustang was redesigned in 2005 we quickly got on board doing subtle changes to the cars that mostly focused on the performance side of things” says Jeff.

Beginning with a bone stock, fresh from of the factory 2008 Ford Mustang – the crew over at Jerry Ford took a 2008 Dark Candy Apple Red Mustang and added Cervini, 3D Carbon and Tru-fiber components to the body and dropped the car with a ROUSH suspension lowering kit for a truley menacing look.

Dynatech long tube headers do their best to help this monster exhale an estimated 475 horsepower through a custom X-pipe and high flow catalytic converters (gotta stay legal). All this power makes it’s way through an upgraded ROUSH Stage 3 drivetrain to Ford Racing 4.10 ring and pinion gears. With all that horsepower on tap, billit lower control arms struggle to plant all that power on tap. Darren Weir at Stang Motorsports of Nisku and Matt at The Mustang Shop in Calgary were instrumental in helping us locate parts and for the final Dyno tuning.

Jerry Ford and crew are currently taking deposits on future builds that get produced monthly and with a deposit we can a Mustang to your specifications. Packages are available for power increases, handling and chassis tuning, exterior cosmetics or combinations of all. The factory warranty is retained and supplemented by the aftermarket companies with their additional warranties. Horsepower at the flywheel is estimated to be right around 475hp with drivability substantially upgraded versus the factory.

Pricing starts around $5,000 up to $28,995 plus the cost of the car. That puts you right around the Stage 3 ROUSH and Saleen level, though you’ll end up with something not seen at your everyday car show. You can contact Jeff (General Sales Manager) at (780) 723-4441 or jeffpwhite68@yahoo.com via email.

Amid weeks of rumors and speculation, NBC officially announced yesterday that there will – in fact – be an updated sequel to the hugely popular 80′s series. Originally starring the Hoff behind the wheel of a Pontiac Trans Am, this time they’re righting the wrong by putting Michael Knight in the driver’s seat of a heavily modded Shelby GT500KR.

Ford Motor Company has been making a huge push towards brandability in movies recently, and of course rebranding Michael Knight’s famous talking car as a Ford product has got to be one of this year’s highlights.

Like the original, this car talks! And if that wasn’t cool enough, how a supercomputer that can hack into anything plugged into a wall. Still not impressed? It drives by itself and, thanks to progress made in the area of nanotechnology, can both color and shape shift. Ok, we’re convinced. Can we take three please?

KITT Hero – a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR that is playing the part of the everyday Hero car with 540 horsepower. King of the Road, for sure.

KITT Attack – a super high-speed version of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR Hero car that transforms into Attack mode with the help of air-ride technology and specialized body parts.

KITT Remote – a driverless Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR version of the Hero vehicle.

The movie stars Deanna Russo, as Sarah Graiman, the daughter of the man who invented the original KITT car. Justin Bruening stars as Mike Tracer, Sarah’s childhood best friend. Sarah recruits Mike to help search for her missing father with the help of the famous talking car. KITT, the talking super car, will be voiced by funnyman, Will Arnett, of 30 Rock, Arrested Development and Blades of Glory fame.

And, if you though David Hasselhoff was done… he’s not. The “Hoff” will reprise his original role, Michael Knight, as a special guest star. I don’t know about the movie, but we’ll be tuning in to watch the car Sunday, February 17 at 9 PM on NBC.

Maybe it was the Giugiaro Concept,or maybe they feel the need to spice things up since Ford’s “shock and awe” barrage of last year’s special edition Mustangs is wearing off. Maybe it was the promise of a refreshed Mustang each year, or maybe it’s the 200% increase in large sunroof productions in the last five years. Or maybe it was because the Corvette did it?

We don’t care why, but it’s cool – well other than the 130 degree interior temps in the summer, but who’s splitting hairs? If the coupe or convertible roof options don’t do anything for your libido, maybe a factory installed glass roof will. For an addcompromising the coupe’s versatility, headroom or climate-controlled environment

“Mustang is an icon in our product lineup, and we are committed to keeping Mustang news fresh every year,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s group vice president, Global Product Development. “As the automotive landscape becomes increasingly competitive, features such as a panoramic glass roof will help differentiate our products from the competition.”

The Nitty Gritty

Tinted privacy glass is wrapped over a coupe like body, maintaining the structural integrity of the Mustang. To keep things nice and cool in those aforementioned hot days, the tint cuts down on the sun’s nasty infrared rays and cuts vehicle cool down in half. A manual roller blind is built in, allowing owners to further control exposure on sunny days.

The specially formulated glass also protects interior fabric material from solar radiation deterioration and discoloration by reducing solar light transmittance. To help improve acoustics and Mustang’s interior quietness, the glass also features a layer of vinyl that reduces noise, vibration and harshness.

The glass itself is safety glass, meaning that it shatters without sharp or jagged edges. Assembly takes place at the Automotive Alliance International plant in Flat Rock, Michigan and installation happens at Ford’s adjacent vehicle personalization facility.

How Bad Do You Want It?

For the low low price of $1,995, “the new glass roof allows Mustang customers to let the sun shine in for half the price of moving up from a coupe to a convertible.” It available as an option on both the V-6 Mustang and Mustang GT beginning next summer.

Well, we didn’t actually spy it but Brenda Priddy and Company did (she’s good, pretty much the queen of car spy photos. Thanks for the pic by the way). While it’s clear this car is pretty heavily cloaked, there’s no mistaking it for a next-gen Mustang nor disputing the speculation that this is what’s coming next for Ford’s Ponycar in 2010.

A facelift of some sort is evident and recent speculation points to the ’10 Mustang being fitted with a new front and rear fascia including grille, new headlamps and taillights. A revised interior is expected also, though it was also heavily covered so no new details are available in that department. As for the powerplant, well your guess is as good as ours. We have it on good authority though that there’s a good chance we’ll be seeing a BOSS 5.7-liter V8 engine offered as an option.

January of 2009, that’s when the facelifted Mustang is expected to go into production. It’s been scheduled (reportedly) for an on-sale date in first quarter of ’09. Although it’ll likely hit the dealerships very early in 2009, it’s expected to be sold as a 2010 model.

Unfortunately that’s pretty much all we know about the new Mustang, but rest assured if anything else develops you’ll be the first to know. In the meantime, discussion about this photo is taking place here.

In a theater near you on December 14th, look for a Ford Shelby GT500 tearing up the streets of New York City in I Am Legend, starring Will Smith. It’s yet another notch in Ford’s belt for building it’s brand in Movies, the new “commercial” of sorts. In addition to the Mustang, Ford also landed cameo roles for the Escape Hybrid and the Expedition – though it’s the GT500 owning the roads.

“There is no doubt that the Shelby Mustang GT500 is the costar of the first part of this story,” said Brian Daly of Ford Global Brand Entertainment (FGBE), which places Ford vehicles in movies, TV and other media. “Smith plays the sole survivor of an apocalypse who races around the deserted, gray, empty streets in this fantastic bright red Mustang. The sequences are incredible.”

“The producers knew they wanted an American-made vehicle and the Shelby Mustang was perfect casting,” he said. “But I also knew Chrysler and GM were making pitches. I kept imagining the folks at Camaro piecing together all kinds of prototypes to get those scenes.”

“Getting Ford brand vehicles in movies like I Am Legend works in two ways,” said Bob Witter, manager, FGBE. “First, producers know that as the audience recognizes a vehicle they see in real life or have been thinking about, the story becomes more relatable. And second, when our products are on-screen they can engage the viewer in a totally different fashion and help enhance our commercial and marketing investments.”

While it’s pretty old news at this point, it’s actually quite important as it clued the world in on Ford’s determination to bring Mustang enthusiasts something new and exciting by 2010. Whether or not the next generation ponycar has an Italian flare is still open for debate, however one thing isn’t – Fabrizio Giugiaro can’t drive.

Huh? Well I guess we all make mistakes. This one, however, probably cost more than a brand new Mustang itself… and this was just a wheel! A one of a kind concept wheel.

Just last week the highly touted concept Mustang was transported to Bulgaria after it was presented at an auto show in Los Angeles. By Friday it hit the streets as Fabrizio took the 500 horsepower supercar out for a spin to meet Sofia mayor Boyko Borisso.

Unfortunately, all wasn’t well as he caught alittle curb rash parking this priceless car on a narrow street in the capital city. Wow, Mustang news must be pretty scarce to post something like this, heh. Rock on MM’ers.

What do you get when you cross a… remember those jokes? Well this one isn’t a joke and, in this case, John Haugh of Cleveland, Ohio wrote it. The Tractorri Lamborghini Mustang , as he calls it, was built by combining a V-10 powered Lamborghini Gallardo and a Mustang GT. This is, quite obviously, not your typical Modded Mustang.

The Tractorri is pertty much a 520 horsepower mid-engine, all-wheel-drive Gallardo tucked inside a heavily modified Mustang. In the rear you’ll notice Gallardo taillamps and see through venting from which you can see the awsome Lamborghini powertrain.

The interior has been combined seamlessly, and although the dash and, well pretty much everything else save for the door panels, was pirated from the Lambo it really does strike a resemblance to the Mustang interior as well. Beautifully done we’d say. While we’re at it, we’d also like to than The Mustang News for the sharp pics and spotting this contraption.

Haugh says it took just under a year to complete and, suprisingly, he plans to drive it regularly. He had it on display during the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Tell you what, I think Ford should hook up with this guy for some of their “Bold Moves”, if they can get to him before the crazy house does. No word on what the car cost to build, though by my guess it was probably enough for someone to retire on.

I’d like to jump right into the new 2008 Twister Mustang Special’s but first we need a history lesson about these little known cars. The “Twister” Mustang were 1970 and 1985 special editions that were built for, and sold exclusively by, dealers within Ford’s Kansas City District Sales Office. There were 96 1970 Mustang Mach 1 Twister Special’s and 90 1985 Mustang GT Twister II’s built, along with some Torino Cobra’s and Ranchero’s.

Enter RA Motorsports, who’s been building Mustangs for collectors and connoisseurs alike as a renowned auto restoration business since 1975. While they’re known for their work on Shelby Mustangs, one fateful day a customer brought in a classic 1970 Twister Mustang for a full restoration that inspired them to build a revised, limited edition 2008 Twister Mustang Special series in which only 96 are to be built.

So, after much debate and after going many rounds with Ford’s legal department, R&A got their hands on a shiney new 2007 Grabber Orange Ford Mustang GT. In cooperation with Matt Korich from CDC, they began brainstorming ideas and came up with what you see here.

The Twister Special package, listed for $12,995, incluede some really neat stuff. A functional ram air shaker with an engraved logo, a lightbar for the convertables, headrest covers, and floor mats with the Twister Special logo embroidered on it. The coupe has an amazing view from the inside courtesy of the Glassback roof. Customized, hand painted Foose wheels with the Twister logo as the centercap. Widows Peak Hood, centered headlight grill, throatier exhaust by Ford Racing, sequential taillights, new spoiler front and rear. The chin spoiler, rockers, and rear bumper have a texturized black out. To top it off an awesome updated graphics package.
