The Bullitt Is Back (Movie This Time)

The 1960’s classic “Bullitt” will be back, and this time we’re talking about the movie. Originally made famous by Steve McQueen’s famous chase scene (see video below), the Bullitt has already had a classic and New Edge version Mustangs modeled after it, and yet another Bullitt Mustang is in the works by Ford in honor of the flick’s upcoming 40th anniversary.

Brad Pitt will be playing the role of Lt. Frank Bullitt, a butt-kicking detective who’s hunting down a hitman who’s already killed a few of his fellow officers. This film’s been in the works for a few years actually, with Pitt being fitted for it even then – apparently he shares a similar love for fast cars and is looking foward to the role.

Hopefully this remake will do justice to the excellent driving skills demonstrated by McQueen during the famous chase through the rollercoaster streets of San Francisco, one of the driving forces behind the Bullitt’s timeless popularity. McQueen actually did all the driving, none of the high-tech CGI graphics of today – just pedal to the medal white-knuckle driving. Modded Mustangs’ YouTube Video

Well, actually we made this video a year ago, though it was never passed around much or put on any major video sharing sites. So today, I registered an account on YouTube (yea I know I’m a loser for not having an account there yet, but hey we’ve got our own server :). We’ve got more videos in coming soon, though for now let’s give this one a shot. Check it out.

Alittle backround on the video… it was made shortly after my 2002 Mustang GT found itself powered by a Vortech supercharger. The run was made on street tires (Nitto’s) and was made at South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) in Cecil, GA. No I didn’t have a helmet, nor did the track really care, heh. I’m alittle smarter now though, and the car’s alittle faster (shhhh…).

Shelby GT500 -vs- The German Autobahn

Ford is putting its performance marketing efforts into high gear this weekend with the premiere of a new ‘Bold Moves’ television ad starring the Shelby GT500, as the high-performance Mustang assumes the position of Ford’s performance flagship.

The new commercial showcases the strength of the Shelby GT500 in both performance and powerful good looks. With the tagline, “Bold is 500-horsepower,” the message is very clear; the Shelby GT500 is Ford’s performance leader.

“With 500hp and the legacy that comes from Carroll Shelby’s involvement, the GT500 is an instant performance icon,” said John Felice, general marketing manager for the Ford brand. “The GT500 has what it takes to carry on the Ford performance torch that burned brightly under the reign of the Ford GT.”

The new 30-second commercial, named ‘Germany,’ opens with a GT500 coupe being unloaded from a ship docked at port. The shipment operator, speaking with a German accent, asks the vehicle’s owner, “You couldn’t find a car you liked in Germany?” to which the owner replies, “No, I couldn’t find a speed limit I liked in America.” The commercial cuts to the GT500 blasting down the famed Autobahn passing exotic German cars.

The new ads will debut on September 10 during the NFL season opener on FOX and CBS and will be run primarily during NASCAR races and NFL games throughout the fall.

The Shelby GT500 features a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 engine producing 500-horsepower and 480 ft.-lbs. of torque. The engine is an evolution of Ford’s experience in supercharged V-8 performance powertrains, most recently the Ford GT supercar’s 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 which produces 550-horsepower. The GT500 shares the four-valve cylinder heads, piston rings and bearings with the Ford GT engine. Read more about the GT500 from the related articles below.

Shelby Does Commercial for the Hertz Mustang GT-H

Carrol Shelby take the 2006 Ford Mustang GT-H (dubbed the “Rent-A-Racer”) for a spin in this adrenaline pumping commercial.

The special run of 500 performance-modified Ford Mustang GTs — designated GT-H for “Hertz” — will be produced by Shelby Automobiles and available at select Hertz locations to mark the 40th anniversary of the legendary program that offered car enthusiasts the unique opportunity to rent and drive a high-performance sports car.

The Ford Racing Performance Group Power Pack boosts the 4.6-liter, V-8 by 25 ponies, to 300 horsepower. The package includes Ford Racing?s 90-mm Cold Air Kit, the Muffler Kit, a new X-pipe similar to the one used on the new Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang, a performance calibration and a cat-back performance exhaust for the throaty sound that will make this car unmistakably a Shelby Mustang GT-H.
